With proper snow tires, this thing handles like an absolute dream in the ice and snow. I thought we were done with this whole “winter” thing in Connecticut as we’re now into spring, but what do I know, I’m from the west coast.

AWD + snow tires in the snow is fabulous. You can, of course, drive in control more easily. But you can also get sideways in a manageable way, then reign it back in as necessary. I drove my E46 on all-seasons through the first few snowstorms this year, and while it was easier to initiate a slide or a spin, it was considerably harder to reign in.

Today’s roads with 4 or so inches of snow on them untreated or plowed have been the grippiest snow roads I’ve driven on this winter. I was not able to get sideways at all no matter how hard I tried. It was weird. Even in the fresh stuff outside of the other tracks, the tires still went right to the pavement. Maybe it would have been more slippery in my car with more road oriented tires, but in my truck with MT’s, it just dug and stayed straight, wasn’t that much fun.

My previous ‘16 STI with Nokian Hakkapelitta R2's was one of the most dominant, fun, and sure footed things I have ever driven in snow. Even better than my ‘11 WRX with General Altimax Arctics.
My current ‘16 STI that I bought last month has the stock 240tw Dunlops on it. It has been downright scary driving it in the little bit of snow that we’ve had here in Buffalo since I bought it. I understeered so badly turning onto my street one night that I ended up in the parking lot of the tattoo shop on the corner.
Proper tires for the proper season means everything!

I thought that was just my imagination, but yeah, it felt more grippy than usual this morning. I had to put my shift the power bias rear to get the rear end to do something and then it only slid like an inch then hooked up.

I’m on Michelin Pilot Alpine’s tires and I love them, and I’ve heard really good things about Nokian tires too. The stock Dunlop tires aren’t bad (unless it drops below 40), but I’m definitely going to replace them with something else when they wear out.

I don’t know if they treated your roads, but my theory was that it was so warm and the snow fell so quick, it insulated the road so slush/ice couldn’t form. And since it was untreated, you didn’t have as much water or slush. But whatever it was, it was not just your imagination.

I find myself over-driving conditions in my van with the Grabber AT2s. No matter the road conditions, it’s always firmly planted.

These are by far the best investment I have ever made:
These make my van pretty much invincible regardless of conditions.

We don’t get much snow in NC, but in the couple times this season where we’ve gotten about 2" on the roads, my Audi was a beast. I only run all-season in the winter, and I could barely get it to break loose when driving like a hoon. If I simply drove like a normal person, it was like driving on dry pavement.

A couple of friends and I were messing around on the frozen Lake Champlain last weekend and while my Mini is tons of fun on the ice giving my friend’s WRX a good thrashing really made me miss my Subaru.

Yeah my sti gets more use in the winter than in the summer, last year I didn’t even put summer tires on it. Hopefully we have another storm or two in April. I always love seeing other STis playing in the snow. The dccd is really the best awd ever.
