Now I know a lot of you complain about oversized big gaping grills but I actually quite like this design element, a la Audi. Something about a well executed sharp-looking sporty big grill that lends such a presence to a car. I am sucker especially for black mesh patterns.

Doesn’t mean I universally like everything with a big-ass grill like the Lexus Spindle grill in some models like the Lincoln MKT, new Accord, new Toyota Highlander, Camry, Avalon or Chrome-laden truck grills. Anyway, here’s some of my favorites.

Lol.

It’s real.

The first Rover 75 (or should I say modern Rover 75), looked like this.

Kinja'd!!!

It got a facelift after a couple of years.

Kinja'd!!!

Towards the end of Rover they took the FWD Rover 75 and made it into a RWD Rover 75 V8 with a 4.6 litre V8 (got it’s own grille, in fact there was a lawsuit from Audi saying Rover were copying there design, Rover replied they had the large grille first*).

*1975 Rover 75 (aka Rover P4 75).

Ha ha. Very funny.

Troll...

There is zero difference between the Audi and the Lexus. Other than you like the Audi more. Fine, styling is subjective. But fucking stop with the constant hating on Lexus for fucking trying something. It’s old, tired, and isn’t funny anymore.

Also I’ve had loads to drink and am starting to take this constant derision of Lexus personally.

Not the best time to be arguing with someone on oppo. Come back when the alcohol is worn off and check the aggression at the door. We’re all friends here.

That’s a dumb thing to take personally. Your future success is not at all vested in this Japanese corporate sub-brand that has 0% idea that you exist at all. Be mad if you want about it, but you’re only committing yourself to being angry all the time since 1) the ugly grill lends itself to derision, and you’re gonna see people make fun of it a lot 2) your inability to handle that is your problem; no one here or anywhere is going to avoid clowning the predator grill just because you don’t like it. Besides all that, Lexus is a big boy and can handle some ribbing. They’ll be fine, trust me.

I work for a Lexus dealer and have been recognized as one of the 9 best people in my position nationally and personally invited to Lexus corporate HQ in Plano, Texas. Lexus is aware I exist. At least the American arm of the company is.

Because my of my job, my future success is indeed quite literally dependent on how Lexus is perceived and how well they sell cars.

Styling is subjective. I have never once argued otherwise and I don’t care if people dislike the current Lexus corporate styling. What I do care about, and what makes me irrationally angry is the constant, incessant, mocking derision of Lexus as a brand around here. Apart from a small handful of other Oppos, the group-think always brings up the same tired, boring, un-funny, childish opinions about Lexus styling, and the brand in general.

It’s old. Find something else to pick on.

My hostility is not aimed at individuals for having their opinions. It is the context of their opinion that bothers me. We claim to be a community of enthusiasts, yet when Lexus is mentioned all it gets is shit on. And this particular post is rich because they literally posted that they like enormous grills on cars, but hate on Lexus for the exact same thing. That’s hypocrisy at its finest.

I apologize for being aggro. But that doesn’t make my point any less correct. I will refrain from making further comments on people’s posts.
