Had a friend with one. Fun to drive but it will break ad a brake booster will cost you $3000, or a $10,000 panoramic roof, or $300+ random thing that should cost $50. Watch the Hooivie video about fixing the Ferrari and that is what it’s like owning a Cayenne.

The early years had issues, but as you get into the 2006 and later, they had the teething problems ironed out. We had an 07 Q7, which is basically the same as a base cayenne and it was mostly problem free. Stay away from the pano roofs, they leak and trash the GPS in the back. They will be more costly to maintain, but any German car will. Make sure you get a Vag-com scan done before you buy. That will show any old intermittent codes in the modules.

I am not gonna be able to help much but wanted to share experience and keep it relevant regards cayenne ownership.

Scenario is as follows:

Coworker looking to replace their ageing 2006 MDX. The car has 210k miles over the last 12 years. They like it. They have owned it since new. And they typically keep their cars for a long time.

Use:

They travel a LOT. And both of them recently retired with a good amount of hiking and skiing.

Cars he considered:

Another MDX, BMW X5, Cayenne.

What he’s getting:

Custom ordered a 2019 Cayenne S. With options such as 20" wheels and upgraded brakes. All said and done he “negotiated” $93k.

They plan on driving 15k - 20k miles a year and I see that car reaching 50k miles in 3 years and the next thing from there on would be massive depreciation. I See that car at $45k before the warranty expires.

And I offered him to buy a CPO Cayenne S, to go around he initial depreciation.. - but the guys’s hell bent on spending his money.

I see brake boosters at regular prices checking online. $300-400.

I am familiar with the center bearing issues as well. And the hatch struts.

I have owned a ton of VW products so I am not new to the wonders of Audi group electricals.

Just wondering what I am missing. Been cruising the forums, just figured I’d ask here as well.

Thanks! I have the Ross Tech program on my laptop. I hear 2006-7 is the best bet for the first generation.

I hear the cars do not respond to around town, city driving. It ages them terribly.

That sounds right. And if you’ve already got the rosstech, you’ve already succumbed to the siren song of VAG vehicle ownership. I loved our Q7. It drove like a sports car, just a bit taller. We only got rid of it because we needed to haul three little ones in car seats. The 3.6 was plenty of power too.
