Considering how fast the tides turned for Hamilton and Vettel, Vettel’s decorum was in top shape post race. This is the exact opposite of what we’re seeing from the youngest old man Rosberg.

They are both incredible egotists who want nothing more than to win. But you need that in a WC driver, and they are both comfortable enough to know that the jibes are not personal.

“Apart from one point last year, we have not had a problem with each other.”
Let us not forget Vettel intentionally drove into Hamilton at Baku, honestly surprised he didn’t get a black flag. I hope Seb keeps his composure better this year even if it was hilarious hearing him curse out Charlie Whiting in Mexico 2016.

Absolutely on the ego, but rather than escalate the situation as I’ve read with others by adding a retort, Vettel deescalated it with some humbleness. I like seeing that over Nico yelling “get off my lawn!”. He seems to be rather bored and discontent in his retirement.

Hopefully he learned his lesson from that fiasco.

I never understood why he walked away. Sounds like he needs a hobby.

I think he mic dropped because he realized it wouldn’t happen again or only had a slim chance of it happening. Now he has regret for leaving. Sour grapes and such. He’s also backed himself in a corner for all the shit he’s thrown at others for trying different racing series.

Sounds like he never really grew up.

I think so too. I don’t understand peacing out like that unless you’re protecting something. Could be family could be ego.

I should think it would be hard growing up in the shadow of a championship-winning father. I don’t follow the sport close enough to know how much pressure he was under as a kid, either real or self-imposed. His father continued racing after winning his single championship. I guess he’s not short of spending money.

Interesting. I perceived his retirement as a way to be closer to his growing family after accomplishing what he set out for. Kinda similar to Keke’s title. Also, not many drivers get to say they beat Lewis Hamilton to the title in equal machinery. Seeing him do the pundit thing shows he misses it.

Keke won the championship in’82 and retired in ‘86. I like to think the Alonsos and Vettels would’ve kept racing Hamilton if they were teammates. The tenor in his comments doesn’t bode well for the “content after racing” hypotheses.

I’m interested to see how many years Hamilton has left in him. Alonso seems to know no bounds.
