Went in for the second interview hoping to talk my way into a crew lead position, and somehow we skipped past that straight to operations manager, AKA Second in command. I’d be responsible for half the managerial duties for a team of over 20 employees. And earn more money with huge growth potential
Trying not to act as if I have the job already, but oh man. It’s tough. If I got it I’d be able to fly through my turbo install, and put a down-payment on a small home with a garage.... Plus the hours are EXACTLY what I want. 10am-7pm. No early mornings, no rush hour traffic, I can workout mornings or nights.... Hell I can even go out after work and still get a decent night’s sleep. The potential just a year or two down the road is pretty huge as well.... They’ll need a full-time marketing and online management guy at some point, and that’s a position I’d enjoy greatly. My “let’s try something different” Instagram resumé went over very well.
One week as a technician. One week as technician lead. Then, Operations Manager. That was the path I was offered, assuming the background check and other small things are positive. Much excite.
Post cool homes/architecture/interior design details, etc. Here’s one from me

You like architecture?
You should check out El Croquis; its a bimestral magazine about architecture and I think it’s sold in English too. CC arquitectos (who’s leader was just featured there) did some amazing work in Valle de Bravo.

Very cool. I wish we had more older homes around here. That bathtub looks childsized though

You know, I don’t know why I’ve never picked up some sort of architecture magazine subscription. I need to change that
I’ll look into your suggestion!

I’m pretty sure it was a 6-foot tub, I never used it. The shower had side jets though, three on each side. Felt kinda funny.

It’s expensive thought, but it’s the one my bosses have so it’s probably good!

Is this something related to your current/prior job? That’s quite a rapid career path.
I assume it isn’t in the Bellevue/Redmond/Kirkland insanity complex, if you are looking at a detached house, it just keeps getting more insane here.

Yes, same field. Ex Microsoft guy who preferred to go the entrepreneurial route, and is damn good at it. Same area, but based out of Woodinville. I’m thinking Carnation. I love the area. It’s quiter and less hustle, without feeling like a little farm town in the middle of nowhere.

Strange! I like it though. Finding furniture that adheres to the space utilizing principles behind the overall design would be tough tho... Unless it’s all built in

huh.... never thought about that...
dont think it is tho as the interior shot i included in my original comment has very different furniture
guessing the show cube had everything custom made

I like the upward facing sorta skylights sorta windows. Gives some privacy while still getting tons of natural light. Hold on a sec...
Hey, Zoidberg! Where do I go to get one of these made locally? Payment? Well, uh... I’ve got this SUPER rare Subaru that will be worth it’s weight in gold, you mark my words. But I’d be willing to part with it.

Nice. No doubt out there a little old place could be relatively reasonable, and you don’t want a distant mcmansion anyway.
Unimpressive old houses in Kent have flown past 300K now, this is a bizarro world.

Congratulations! That’s awesome

Carnation has some drawbacks for the Valley... There’s a reason people live in Monroe - it is cheap, in Snohomish county (cheaper property taxes), and it never gets flooded in. Duvall can get flooded in, but it’s pretty rare that all the roads get closed...
That said, if you do, you’ll be fairly close to my new place. You’d probably pass within less than a quarter of a mile from it daily...

So how flooded is flooded? Could a certain Miata with tall tires and a 3" lift make it through or are we talking a foot of water? I’ve heard a bit about that. I didn’t do much, but I have taken a handful of jobs in the area.
I like Monroe too. My absolute favorite nearby driving roads are somewhere in Monroe...

That’s the hope! A 2 or 3 bed, 2 bath rambler with a 2 car attached garage that straddles the line between fixer-upper and well-maintained is the dream. The only question is how far id have to go to get that.
Even in Kent huh? I wonder how Wenatchee looks from a real estate perspective...
![]() 03/24/2018 at 20:44 |

Wenatchee is being overrun by affluent (likely many pensioned) boomers from the west side escaping the rain and traffic. I don’t know if real bargains are there compared to say 5 or 10 years ago, but certainly not bad compared to anywhere around here.
I hope you get the job and act fast, I suspect the bubble will expand more before it bursts, and only close-in some areas will have any immunity.
Ordinary tract houses in Kent can be 500K+. Somehow it became desirable, even with a hellish commute to Bellevue.

They close the roads. It’s probably the biggest downside of Carnation (aside from being relatively inconvenient to everything in general due to the lack of major roads). That said, it’s a cute and still fairly inexpensive area of the east side.
So you know, Woodinville-Duvall Road is the last of the roads over the river to close.
P.S. I now live in Duvall, so feel free to ask me anything about the valley if you want any further info. My wife has lived out here since she was born aside from the couple years we lived in Bellevue.
