What don’t you see here? There’s something missing on this car.

It’s the exhaust tip. It’s not over stylized or glorified with some fake piece of chrome.

Instead it’s completely hidden creating an nice smooth bumper. I dig it. I believe the higher trim Impalas do have fake exhaust tips, but you can’t have everything perfect can you.

Cars like this make me sad. Like sure the Impala isn’t a total pile of garbage like it used to be but it’s just so bland. Someone spent between twenty and thirty thousand hard earned dollars on it when it was new for.... what? There’s just so much more out there.

It’s like buying an overpriced microwave sandwich from Starbucks when you’re on a block with a local deli, burger joint and ramen shop that all would’ve made you an exceptional meal for the same price.

I do like the current gen Impalas - no, they are not “sporty” but for what they are they execute well.

Disagree, as long as its not over the top, id rather see it than not. To me a crappy looking hanging exhaust or not seeing it to me means the car is cheap and low quality. Engineers at least had to look at the exhaust for the cars with the crappy cut outs

I always get these Impalas from state motor pool. They’re fine. They have an absolutely massive trunk but rear visibility is atrocious and the steering is completely numb. They’re fine.

Not really. Just make the bumper go past a certain point and its covered. That or they just tuck it up. So basically if you have pipe and a welder, any average joe can tuck an exhaust.

The real engineering is when they have to make the exhaust find that cut out. They also engineer the bumper to hold the tips or have the cut outs attached some how on there. Ether way it’s a lot of AutoCAD work and molding to get that right.

Now this is after market but i guarantee a lot of work went into the proper routing and making them match up to the exhaust tip.

It’s a car designed for fleet and rental sales.

Rentals and fleet cars get damaged.

Cheaper replacement without any cutouts or added-on metallic finishers.

But don’t you also have to figure out where to place the tip so that exhaust gasses still flow out from under the car? It’s always been my understanding that the reason exhausts sticknoht past the bumper is so that gasses don’t get trapped under the car and possibly swirl back into the cabin.
