Imagine a car that expertly balances refinement and frugality like spices and hops in craft beer. The 2015 Fiesta SFE is the Unibroue of cars.

This is a subcompact sedan that encourages you to shift your pinky up as you wind up the tiny, tuborcharged 1.0 liter engine towards it’s 6,500 RPM redline. It’s a car whose technological trickeries mask it’s inherently unbalanced three cylinder roots, and the result is a wholly satisfying commuter that is much at home absorbing interstates while sipping fuel as it is carving corners in the mountains.

Does this car pack the power of the Fiesta ST? No, but the ST does not average 45 MPG, and the SFE’s 148 lb ft of torque is readily available as low as 2,500 rpm, providing plenty of thrust. The car never feels underpowered and is happy to cruise at any speed without complaint. 70 mph in 5th gear puts the engine at 2,500 rpm which isn’t bad compared to other subcompacts like the Fit that soar over 3,000 rpm to maintain highway speeds

With a solid sounding six speaker stereo equipped with Sync, cruise control, color changing mood lighting, a leather wrapped steering wheel and comfortable cloth seats, the SFE also comes will equipped. Unfortunately absent are read disc brakes, alloy wheels and a sunroof, the latter I believe is optional.

Bottom line, I am honestly smitten with this car. It’s just good, clean fun! And it doesn’t beat you up or take any creature comforts from you to provide that fun. Viva la Fiesta.

Agreed 100 percent loving mine. Keep and eye on the coolant though, these little 1.0 have a reputation for running pretty warm

Did not know that. Is there a filter or grille alteration to help keep it cool? Mine seems to run a fan after the engine has been off for a while

I’ve averaged 42 in my ST before. It was horrible and slow, but I did it.

Yeah, there is a aux water pump to cool the turbo if it’s warm when you shut it off. If you open the hood after shut down you will see coolant still circulating.

Some guys have removed the active grill shutters to improve cooling. I might consider that once it really gets hot here in socal. Unfortunately no improved radiators yet, still crossing my fingers.

I picked up an ultragauge to keep closer taps on the temp. The little bar style has a range of about 45 degrees F.

Someone at work has one of these as a black hatch. It may not be the best subcompact you can buy but it’s damn good and I think it looks the best by far

Trying to get great fuel efficiency out of a car that is always encouraging you to get on it awful. My WRX is capable of 30-35mpg but I’m usually around 25mpg on mostly highway driving because turbo spool is fun. :)

Yeah my last tanks was somehow an all time low at 25.8. It’s tuned, but geez. So this tank I am being a bit softer with it.

It certainly doesn’t have as much usable space as a Fit, and the new Accent/Rio twins probably have nicer materials inside, but it’s just a handsome little fun car.

Yeah, the fit is more usable and the Korean twins are probably a better value but Ford knows how to make handsome cars
