Four site visits that involved two circuit boards and one photo sensor, all it took was a little zip tie. The tech was understandably relieved and frustrated at the same time. At least I can scan and copy through the document feeder again.

And now I can sleep soundly in the knowledge that you can, again, make copies as God intended. Thank you for this important post.
I eagerly await your update regarding the sharpening of your pencil and the reloading of the stapler.

Story time;
My Dad started working on cash registers in 1971 after taking an aptitude test that showed he excelled in troubleshooting small machines/electronics. He worked for the same company for 40 years, retired as a Service Manager and ended up doing photocopiers most of his career.
He used to carry around a toolkit full of hand tools, screwdrivers, needle nosed pliers, cable-ties, epoxy. If there was a problem with a machine he would take it apart with a philips screwdriver and figure out which piece was broken and fix it himself.
Mid 90s they stopped fixing things, and started instead to replace parts, each tech needed to carry a car stock of all the little pieces that made up a machine.
2005 or so they stopped carrying car stock and had to order parts for each call. Every call had to follow the same procedure to find the problem. start with A, move to B, then C.
By the time he retired in 2014 technicians didn’t have tools, only laptops and cable. Diagnostics was part of the machine and would tell you what it needed replaced. There were only a handful of replaceable components - and most often machines would be replaced with a new machine rather than opening covers on a broken one..

That time they ordered 5/16 staples and not the 3/8 staples, unbelievable.

We were one step away from a new wiring harness according to the tech.

As someone that makes his living working on printers and copiers, it’s amazing how modular everything is getting. I fix 95% of the stuff using only a 5.5 mm socket, at T20 torque drivers, two screwdrivers, and a pair of needle noise pliers.

lol pretty sure that is one of the hp models you could send a command string to and show whatever you wanted on the screen, those were fun
