This past Sunday we planned a Los Angeles area Oppo Meet to go for a drive in Malibu and enjoy the sunny Socal weather. Well of course #firstworldproblems it happened to be the one day a year that it rains. So we improvised and headed to the Petersen Automotive Museum. An awesome museum for sure, although I did not take any useful pictures haha. I’m sure some of the others did, but either way it was a really cool place and some fun company to hang out with.
Such an amazing assortment of Oppo cars as well lol.
Sportomatic! Whatever that means.
We debated whether this was “authentic” dirt on the rally Porsche or did the museum curators create this?
Because race car! Nice to see cars that were actually used for something other than art.
Definitely a place worth checking out if you are in or end up in the Los Angeles area. The vault downstairs is supposed to be really neat as well but we didn’t want to spend that much time/money to go explore that area.
Successful Socal Oppo meetup! Ready for the next one to try and go do more driving. Let me know if you’d like to be added to our mailing list for future events.

My vault tour is scheduled for..well, two hours from now, actually. Sad I missed the meet-up.

Suggestion: when the tour guide screws up, don’t correct him. He got really mad when myself and my friend did that.

Maybe it’s a good thing I didn’t go because I would have ruined the Oppo picture by being left out. I wanted to bring one of my e-Golf’s, but the charger at the Peterson is stupid expensive, and they still charge you for parking. So I would have had to park across the street.
Let’s make the next Oppo meet either for a Saturday afternoon after 1, or sometime in early May when I have a break from school.

Sorry I bailed, the fun car is averse to falling sky water.
I actually work near the Petersen - I could meet someone there in 10 minutes right now if I had to.

I know it almost certainly will be early on a weekend just about always, mainly due to traffic. Shit gets too crowded to have any fun driving around much past noon. Definitely will be shooting for more events in the summer months since rain wont be a factor and yeah Id like to change things up with a Saturday for sure.
Haha we totally could have just photoshopped you into the photo if you came. Next time!

There were definitely some wonderful cars in there. Made me wish I had a halfway decent camera.

You shoulda taken a bus then! Lol its cool, the sky water is why I didnt bring the Miata. I dont believe in putting the top up. Definitely gotta come out when we do a driving event of some sort at the next one. Surely should get in some canyon carving next time.

Damn, my car is tall! it does have a ton of head head room in the front. “Round for a Reason” TM, and all that. Haha
In all seriousness, I’m not even mad about the rain. I’ve been meaning to go to the Petersen for too long. Meeting other people is an easy way to force yourself to go.

For sure, it worked out well! I just get so little driving in being on travel so I kind of miss it. I should have gone for a drive on Friday since I had the day off

I actually went out in PV around 5:30. The sun was shining and the roads were dry. It was much needed. The last time I drove the 348 was at the last meet. This year has been hectic!

sportomatic was porsches early attempt a clutchless manual transmission using 60s era tech. It was as horribly complicated, delicate and as crappy as you could imagine.
They even made a handful of 914s with it. it is a bizarre place in the collector market becuase it is incredibly rare, yet most likely is busted (or about to bust)
