I accidentally got some tire shine on my brakes. With a hybrid car, that means squeaky and grinding brakes at low speed. When the engine started up it was acting like it had some bad gas in it. I’m not surprised since most of my trips the engine never warms up. I was having none of that this afternoon.

I found an empty road and gave it an Italian tune-up with some hard acceleration. That warmed up the engine and made the bad gas feeling go away.

Now another issue with a hybrid is how it rarely ever uses the friction brakes(95% Regen). Some hard braking to force usage of the friction brakes took care of the whatever residue was on them.

Sometimes the good ole Italian tune-up works! Running like a top and eeriely quiet again in city driving.

Hard braking is just what the doctor ordered for breaking in new brakes. I just went through the process this weekend.
