It’ll still be a CVT, though.

Yup. FWD-based slip and grip system for sure. At least the Maxima makes up for it with 300HP

That’s the sound of the Nissan CVT when you try to floor it.

I gotta say Nissan just bores the hell out of me as a company. Everyone mentions Toyota being beige and not taking chances but at least they change up their model lineup enough and we may get an exciting Supra soon.

Hey Nissan Toyota is bringing back the Supra, whatcha gonna do? I mean, we still have the 370z... you know, the one from 2009. That’s still cool right? I mean, we gave it a new bumper and headlights so that should make it compete right? ....right?

They should have put that 400HP Infiniti 3.0T in the 370Z ages ago. “But Hey! here are 2 versions of the Rogue so that we can sell gazzilion of them and improve nothing else”

Although, the new Leaf has been getting very good reviews. The rest of the lineup is only fit for rental fleets in my opinion.

I thought the CVT didn’t make a noise at all because it refused to do anything in the first place.

Well, design is not Nissan’s problem (NV-series, and the Versa and Sentra sedans notwithstanding). It’s certainly not with the current - admittedly dull-looking - Altima, nor with the concept sketch, which looks better than the production 2018 accord and Camry models already.

CVTs are the problem.

Reliability, longevity, and responsiveness are the greatest flaws across the entire Nissan US lineup. All 3 of those are related to the CVT which every one of their FWD-based platforms is saddled with. Honda and Subaru use them, too, and they suck there as well. Toyota and Ford use them for their hybrids, where an odd driving character is tolerable and even desirable.

Why bother buying Nissan, anyway? The interiors and exteriors pale compared to Mazda and Ford, they can’t match Honda and Toyota’s sales numbers, Volvo and Subaru have the safety crown on lock, Hyundai and Kia will finance almost anyone still and have longer warranties, and chevy is the perpetual queen of mediocrity, and it shouldn’t be a competition for THAT throne.

Nissan needs to go back to the drawing board, and/or swallow its pride and share non-DCT & non-CVT transmissions with some other brand, and then put its R&D to righting their sinking ship.
