Free ExplainReply ®: this is a several-fold joke. First, zombie chipmunks are just funny. Second, zombies gain menace from being a teeming throng of *people* - “dead weight”. Chipmunks are... how shall I put this... not physically threatening. Third, chipmunks are not disturbing as relics of humanity, they’re just fluffy woodland creatures. Any “point” of a zombie movie is rendered as nonsense. They aren’t mindless consumer proxies, they’re striped fluffy-tail rats. That are cute. And dead.

Which is point four - the cuteness attributed makes being threatening an uphill battle. Add the ridiculous bit with them literally walking through the front door, and the implicit joke that zombie movies are mined out enough they have to try *anything* for a fresh twist, and there are layers on layers of jokes here.

But foremost: zombie chipmunks. Tee hee.

There’s another one kind of in the same spirit as the zombie chipmunks one, with somebody coming to the woods and seeing all the forest creatures, “but this time, something seemed wrong”, or something like that. Rabbits, squirrels, birds, all in a crowd, advancing with a creepy grin...
