I get riled up when I see this kind of stuff, because I think it is true. I am a believer in results, and California has been dominated by traditional liberal politics for a very long time, and our state has paid and continues to pay a heavy price for it. The gap between rich and poor has gotten worse, affordable housing is a fantasy, homelessness and crime are up, infrastructure is crumbling, and we pay the highest taxes in the country. Before you start attacking Republicans, it is a fallacy to say to condemn Democrats is to support Republicans. I don’t like the heavy handed religious social engineering, or the bigotry that so often infects their agenda. But taking offense at Republicans by continuing to support those whose ideas have been tested and failed is insane.

I think you just described pretty much any state in the Union. The problems you list are not unique to California.

I think that by and large, the enemy is a bipolar distribution of ideologies. And it can’t help but hurt California the worst as our nation’s largest and most diverse state.

That’s happening pretty much everywhere in this country, even in red places. I think it’s more that the two sides are unwilling to work with each other than any singular party’s fault. When humans cannot come together, they seem to almost always take to the extremes.

Right now, an actual candidate for Governor is almost entirely running on a platform of “The current Governor (a Republican) isn’t enough of a piece of shit, he needs to hate more people”. Her campaign promises are literally to attack as many people as she can. Which, okay... She basically admits that we have a very conservative Governor, but he’s okay with gay people marrying and people like me...merely existing. 50,000 people are fleeing this state a year (I plan on being one of them) and the flow isn’t going to decrease any time soon.

I was hesitant to click on a political post but your stuff is usually good.

You didn’t disappoint. That article could have been written about Detroit in the 80s. I lean to the right fiscally bit pretty liberal socially so I’ve been thinking along the same lines. I’d love to see a third party rise up but the powers that be made sure that’s almost impossible after Perot. 2022 election is gonna be crazy.

Jesus..... First off, stay away from moonie-owned newspapers..... seriously..

Secondly, California is the 6th largest economy in the World (and still growing) and is presently running a $6 Billion surplus ..

But yeah, Mr. “ believer in results ”... California is just total hell on earth thanks to democrats.... sheesh.

This opinion column not attempt to explain how California’s homeless problem is caused by liberalism. I get that liberal politicians are in charge, but where are the details?

I do blame the Democratic regime for the homelessness of CA. The west coast is the wrong place to go for a better life. I would go South or South East (AZ, NM, AL, GA, SC, or NC). Politicians often create policies that increase the cost of living which hurt the very poorest.

Arizona has no water. People need to stop moving here. Especially people from California who are just looking to pay less taxes.

Just stay out of Arizona. We don’t need any more Californians moving here looking to pay less taxes. There’s snakes and scorpions everywhere and we don’t have any more water. Go to Texas.

I live in Illinois, if you want example number 2, research my state.

People must quit believing that people are all the way to crazy left or crazy right. 95% of people exist along the normal spectrum in the middle.

Ah yes, purposefully mistaking correlation for causation, the oldest propaganda trick in the book.

Honestly didn’t you’d be suckered by an article like this.

(it amuses me that somebody using the same stats, being just as vague about their causes, could also easily spin it to the politics not being liberal enough to cause the needed change!)

The article trys to say that California’s ( lax) laws regarding,” drug use, possession, and petty crimes” are directly resulting in more homelessness. It may be true, but with tougher laws those same people would then be in prison, do their time , and be back on the street up to their old tricks. (unless you believe prison rehabilitates)

Personally I’d like drug use to not have such penalty, if you want to ruin your life so be it. The war on drugs has and will continue to be a waste of time, we need to focus on mental health not punishment
