What in your mind is the ugliest shooting brake?

My Entry: The Kia Rio Wagon

I saw one of these yesterday and I was disgusted.

This is going to be an absolutely scalding take, but the international 7th gen Accord wagon (we got the sedan as the first TSX). Looks fine from this angle...

But the rear part just looks tacked on.

I don’t get why people like it so much.

Most of these entries are boring to me, but not actively ugly. This thing is actively ugly. There’s just so much going on. It’s like Exner ate a bunch of mushrooms and dreamed of the Imperial Suburban, but small. In my opinion, there’s a total incongruity of styling.

I only give the Kia a pass because it looks like a Kia should look (from the era) — awkward! The sedan version was just as bad, IMO.

To me, the Honda was bad because they took a perfectly nice looking sedan and slapped a rear on it, almost like it was just an aftermarket conversion.

I’d like to nominate the Kia Pride. We got this in continental Europe from 1995 to 2000, but it obviously was a rebadged late 1980s Mazda 121. Known in the US as the Ford Festiva.

The interior would’ve looked dreadful in the 1980s.

I’\ve looked for them for sale just yet. Almost not to be found, and those I did find were all <€900. Highest amount of kms? 145k km (so <100k miles). Tells you all you need to know about the quality of these things I guess.

No it’s prefect. So functional. They could have done something better with the tailights, but this Camry was designed for the US market specifically so I’m sure the wagon was a total afterthought. Even in 92 minivans and SUVs were taking over.

Yeah that.., Elantra? is way worse than the Kia. That rear window shape is all wrong. At least the Rio doesn’t look like a total afterthought. It looks like the design had some thought put into it beyond “we need a wagon version, i guess”

Saturn SW1. Just a whole lot of sadness going on there. Of special note, they didn’t do any real design work to differentiate the sedan from the wagon. Look at that lazy rear window design it has..

At least the DOHC SW2 had a little bit of pep to make up for the rest of the blah-ness of the car.
