Actually, they’re are quite fun to drive. Had one as a rental for a few weeks, thoroughly enjoyed it. Can’t say anything to it’s longevity, though.

I see one parked around the are on occasion and always thought it was decent looking myself. Really wish they would have gotten all exciting and made the forty-nine concept a reality as they did with this. Though Ford was going through kind of a weird phase at the time and it was the height of the retro styling phase so some may feel it hasn’t aged well

I myself like the way it looks and think it aged well, looks like a classic but is (relatively) newer.

I like em long
Lol but for real, what do you think of the engine? Good pull and driving aesthetics? And handling too.

I left several lines in the parking garages of most major Casinos in Vegas. The engine was nice. It seemed to handle alright. Not sports car sharp, but certainly better than your average mainstream sedan. Unique look, too.

I remember the trunk being rather diminutive, but it’s a ‘Vert, so there you have it.

A good car, hampered only by its lack of identity rather than any physical flaw. Is it a cruiser, GT, Sport coupe or something else?
If you like them, get one.

I think I boo’d it when it came out. A neighbor has one now with the removable hard top, and I do have to say its quite nice.

I haven’t driven one but I can’t imagine it’s all that great. Based on the same platform as the S-type so if handling is anything like that car, then it’s meh. AJ35 probably has enough power for most. Although it’s a jag mill, the engine was built in Ohio. I imagine it has ford electrics, so probably not as hit or miss as a Jag

I like them in black, if only you could get one with a tan interior that was more upscale than what Ford could provide at the time I’d be smitten.

They didn’t really become collectible, so probably a good used buy if you want a smooth open top cruiser. Probably not considered sporty by anyone under 70. I see these as another roughly turn of the century boomer dream car (along with Prowler and SSR).

I’m sure it’s a fine car if you just want a convertible that is made for cruising and not twisty back roads.
As far as looks, when it came out I just assumed that the car came with a free AARP membership.

The chassis/platform is excellent for the era. Ford intended to use this platform the first IRS Mustang before changing their minds... The problem is that the engines are finnicky and will require Jaguar levels of maintenance (early DI, too). The transmissions are also classic luxury car style automatics (even though they’re 5 speed), so by modern standards feel like they have a ridiculously late lockup.

I like ‘em. They’ve certainly aged much better than the other early 2000's retro styled cars.

I thought they looked really cool when they came out. Then slowly over time, they got worse in my eyes.

In fact, I’ll go one further: This is riding on the best RWD platform used by a domestic carmaker until Chrysler started making LX cars in 2005-2006.

I’ve never driven one but I really like the way they look. My wife occasionally talks about trading her Beetle for one of these and I support that idea.

If you do get it, do a write-up review on it! I’d like to see what you’d think about it after owning it.

I will, but don’t hold your breath. She really loves her Beetle. I’m sure this won’t happen unless the Beetle kicks the bucket.

They are starting to inch toward collectable status. I like the J Mays retro-modern look, and the base mechanical stuff is shared with the Lincoln LS and Jaaaaag S-type of the period, i think.
A lot of them came with that retro seafoam green. Not my favorite.
The hard top is essential. Do not buy one without it. Also you might want to look into the Neiman Marcus special editions (i remember them as part of their Christmas catalogue).
Here is a picture of said edition.

I’ll have to defer to someone more knowledgeable of what it’s like to own and drive one, but FWIW I always liked the aesthetic. One of the better retro executions out there.

I like the way they look, and the platform is one I admire, sharing it with the Lincoln LS and Jaguar S-Type.
However, no car screams, “Boomer Woman,” more than one of these. At my old job, I helped someone out with one and an old woman came up and complimented it. I’ve never seen anyone but old women drive these things.
