Many cars come in very unexciting colors like silver, white, and black. Here is a short post on great colors on subjectively bad cars.

The Dart actually offered several really great colors. In addition to that blue there was an orange and a yellow-green called “Citrus Peel”. Generic compact/economy cars (not necessarily “bad” cars - just lower end) have often offered a few bright colors to make them stand out a little bit. The Hyundai Accent has come in a variety of yellows, blues and some really bright greens over the years, that Spark has been green and yellow as well, and Ford has that fuchsia Fiesta.

Good car, but people think it’s bad. I would’ve actually bought mine in this color if it were available in the US.
Thermo-Tec Lime Green. It’s actually some fancy high-tech shit:

I really liked those colors as well. The Laguna Blue was definitely my favorite. The 1.4 turbo with the 6 speed manual seems like it would be fun to drive. Too bad FCA keeps launching cars when they are only half baked like the Dart, 200, and Giulia.

I’m a sucker for metallic orange. Aztek in Sunburst Orange
Dark, non-metallic reds? Oh, yeah. Lancia Beta Coupe in Bordeaux... I think.
Chrysler 200 in Ceramic Blue
Honorable mention. The accurate and honest, if unoriginal, Blue 153. Azzurro 153 in the untranslated advertisements at least.

Not a particularly bad car, but the Spruce Green Mica that used to be available on the Rav4 was a great colour. Shame they got rid of it. It also came on several other Toyotas;
Personally, I’d love a Matrix in it.

When I was car shopping in 2015 I thought about a Dart with the 1.4T and manual - it’s basically the same engine that is in the 500 Abarth, so there is a lot of aftermarket support and relatively inexpensive tunes can bring it to nearly 200 hp which seemed pretty fun. Ultimately FCA quality scared me off.

Not very colorful, but your post reminded me of one of my brothers’ previous cars, a ’04 Sebring. I accompanied him when he went car shopping, and he couldn’t help but fall in love with the Chrysler. I never really liked the car, but I could see what he saw in it. There was something kind of pseudo-sporty and a little bit classy about it when seeing it in person, and the Graphite Metallic paint was actually pretty damn nice. Looked a lot like this, but with chrome wheels:

I would argue that Dart you posted is actually quite good if you get over the internet bias.
That’s a GT, likely with the 6-speed manual. The 2.4L/6-speed combo was quite fun to drive, while the GT’s suspension offered impressive handling for an economy car. The interior was comfortable and well appointed.
Bad car good color:

I hope to paint a car this color someday.

Mystique blue will never look like it wasn’t a Maaco respray. On ever cobalt and HHR I see it on, it never looks like a good paint job and reeks of “Maaco’s weekly special”. It was only the lack of this color on any other car models that clued me in that it was factory.

Biggest problem for the GT was price. It was as much, if not more expensive than many actual hot hatches while still being a Dart at its core. It was competitive in the lesser trims, but the GT was always behind everything else in terms of performance and value.

I had to look it up. I think the 2010 Rotor Glow metallic has a little more metal flake and orange than the 1995 Durango Copper Mica. It is really close and really nice though.

Everybody tells me Its a piece of crap when I try to stand up for its looks. I have yet to fulfill my dream of driving one, to determine that for myself. To be fair it’s an FCA product so I think poor quality comes with the territory.

Easy for you to say, having no FCA cars. Yours were before Mergio merged into their left lane and proceeded to slow down and prevent them from moving forward.

I don’t own any, but plenty of my family does. They have all been great cars for them, but they also take great care of their vehicles.
Honestly I think the majority of FCA’s bad rap come from the type of people who buy them. They are generally bought by low-income people who lack the funds to properly maintain their vehicles. Poorly maintained vehicles have more issues. If someone would get reliability stats that took into account how the vehicles were maintained, I bet ratings would look very different.

The 200 is a great driving little car, to me it’s far better than anything in it’s class, especially in V6 form. My only complaint about it would be it’s kinda small inside, but most smaller sedans are.

It was a far better car than cars like the Corolla S, while only costing $100 more.
Not sure why anyone would try to cross shop a Dart with hot hatches?

But the Dart’s reliability and gas mileage were consistently poor. Over the entire run. So that definitely had something to do with it. Interior was actually a good place to be while it worked though, and the “aero” I think it was? I liked the one my friend had. But it was a lease and he didn’t get another. It’s not all bad news, but it’s not all good either for the dart which unfortunately wasn’t enough for the masses...
And if you tell people they’re buying the most expensive dart with a stiffer, more jarring ride because it’s the “fast” dart, then yeah it’s gonna get cross shopped with similar cars.

A friend of the family works at the FCA plant in Windsor, Ontario and owns a turbo 1.4L Dart, he’s had no problems with it at all!
I actually quite like the styling of them, TBH, but I am not a sedan guy, otherwise I would actually consider one!

The Dart is as reliable as it’s owners, like most Mopars. Take good care of it, maintain it well, it will take good care of you. Do next to no maintenance like the average owner, it’s going to go to hell in a hurry.
I had a 2013 Dart GT for a week, I had no issue cracking 34 mpg in mixed driving with that car. That’s 6 mpg better than our 2012 Corolla S did on the same drive. Not sure how that’s considered poor gas mileage?

I’m sure some good ones got made, but many more were not well made. These are not old cars - the oldest are just turning 6, correct? There’s not much to maintain as-is. Electrical foibles and mechanical issues beyond the reach of regular oil changes are not the fault of an owner of a brand new car.
And your one experience in one for a week goes up against a litany of people complaining that it struggled to hit EPA figures which, already, weren’t that good.

Idk, people seem to love Toyota, after that 2012 Corolla S, I will never touch another Toyota. We owned it for 2 yrs/85k miles. It had 2 engines and 3 transmissions replaced under warranty in that period, dealer maintained since new, never abused. I wish I would have stuck to my guns and waited a year for the Dart.
I put on 40k/yr regularly, so in 6 yrs I could easily have put over 200k on one, so being only 6 yrs old doesn’t really matter at that point.
Even so, we’re talking about economy cars, not many are “made well”, especially these days. The Dart was leagues above it’s competitors in comfort and fun to drive categories.
From people on fuelly, it gets almost identical mileage to the touted Corolla: http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/corolla/2013
http://www.fuelly.com/car/dodge/dart/2013
So I’m not sure how that’s considered horrible. Especially from a heavier, better performing car.
