I was surprised that the Transit wasn’t an entry, given that they have LHD from the European version. Didn’t they announce a hybrid version to come out in the next few years?

The plug-in hybrid is based on the Transit Custom, which isn’t sold in the US. It’s in between the Transit and the Transit Connect in size.

(As I understand it, the previous-gen full-size Transit was a size that... in a low roof, shorter wheelbase configuration competed against the Volkswagen Transporter, but in high roof, longer wheelbase configurations, competed against the Mercedes Sprinter. The current-gen got bigger, though, to be able to replace the Econoline in the US, so the low roof short wheelbase configurations in Europe got replaced by the Transit Custom, more directly aimed at the Transporter.)

I saw a test mule of the Custom tooling around Dearborn about 2 years ago; looked to be about the size of most minivans. Too bad we can’t get something like that over here - the AWD option would be nice for these Midwest winters!

It’ll be a fair bit taller, but otherwise, yeah, about right.

(We do get something in that class here, the Mercedes-Benz Metris. We only get the RWD version here, though, not the (arguably more useful, due to a lower load floor) FWD version.)
