My father is planning on getting a new truck soon and wants to go on a road trip. He had a good question about what happens if the new truck breaks down 1000 miles from home?

Of course it would be under warranty, so a Dealer say in the Smoky Mountains would have to work on the truck, give us a loaner? Say the engine is cracked and will be a month before the truck is driveable again, we cant stay 1000 miles from home for long, so we would have to drive the loaner back home and have to drive back to get the truck or they ship it by car carrier to the local dealership?

Unfortunately it can vary by dealer an manufacturer. Some manufacturers will give you a rental car to use for the remainder of the trip. I’d read the warranty manual to see if there is really anything you’re obligated to. Some manufacturers offer a service contract which covers vacation interruption as well.

If you have roadside assistance through the warranty, they will take the truck to the nearest dealer. At that point, they may also offer you trip interruption coverage, which could be a flight home, a rental car, or potentially a hotel until a rental car is available. They should also be able to arrange for the truck to get delivered back once it is fixed.

I’ll read up about the warranty. It will most likely be a Mazda or Chevrolet.

Mazda offers free roadside for 36/36k dunno if it would cover a rental or anything though.

yea when I bought the Camaro in 2015, GM was including one year of OnStar on new purchases, which had the roadside stuff too.
