17 grand for a W210?! Is that a joke? That’s W211 money.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

I’d pay that in a heartbeat to get one of these in the states, especially for one with such low mileage. Would prefer an actual color pallet though.

Sedan? Yes. Wagon? Not even close. Totally reasonable. 211 E55 wagons go for considerably more with higher miles in worse overall condition. 210 E55 wagon is like R63 rare.

Why? I’ve driven a W210 e55 and I’ve driven a W210 e320 estate and neither one was remarkable or worth over 10 grand in my opinion. I just don’t get the appeal at all - even with the wagon factor.

I’ve always thought the W210 was cool, especially in AMG/wagon form. Admittedly, I have never driven one.

I know, but there is no reason to pay that price for the estate aside from rarity. The wagon version is altogether worse than the sedan in terms of performance. The price people are willing to pay is absurd when you break it down to what it is: an old car with performance that comes short of its significantly less expensive sedan counterpart. It’s sad.

Counterpoint: it’s still cooler, more reliable, easier to work on, more practical, and better performing than most new cars in the same price range. I would pay it. I could sleep in it. Put mountain bikes or snowboards in it or on it. Road trip the hell out of it. Autocross it for the lols. Look at it and drool. Just generally be more awesome because of it.

Never. I had a 2001 Mercedes and it was at the height of their Daimler Chrysler cost cutting madness. It will break and then it will be expensive to fix.

Counter counter point - the sedan will do all of those things for less money. Also, w210 e55 maintenance isn’t on the cheap side. That generation is generally reliable, but partes aren’t cheap when things go wrong, and they will go wrong on a 15+ year old car. I also don’t recommend sleeping in a wagon. It will be hot in the summer and freezing in the winter during nights. Sleeping in cars is usually a bad idea.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

You’re not missing much. Surprisingly low-rent inside for a $50K vehicle. Although mine was OK, the ones my parents had were poorly assembled, from the great days of the DiamlerChrysler cost-cutting. Defective steering racks fresh from the factory, failing climate control systems, rear seats that won’t latch - all sorts of things that you wouldn’t tolerate on a car half that price.
Oh, and unlike the BMWs we had previously, the W210 is a bit of a snore to drive. An expensive appliance, not something you drive for fun.

Less money yes, but equally less coolness and practicality. I can’t fit my mountain bike in it, let alone more than one. Oh, did I forget to mention I have an 01 E55 sedan? (Thought that was common knowledge here ) Snowboards are tight in it, and take up passenger seating room. Having owned a 210 wagon, I know the wagon part makes it sooooo much more useful. As far as reliability goes, post-facelift is fantastic. I’ve got under $500 in mine over two years of ownership including regular maintenance at 140k. 210's are predictable and easy to work on, everything about them is a known entity. The maintenance is infinitely cheaper than anything else even remotely similar, and most things are easy to DIY. Parts aren’t Honda cheap, but they can be found for more reasonable prices from certain retailers. I don’t mean that I want to sleep in it, just that I could. Sleeping in sedans just gets you a linked neck and a headache.
