The crowd will lift their fidget spinners in celebration when Rebellion ascends the podium.

Rebellion. One of the best privateer teams in the WEC, and the only one that can challenge Toyota at every front and have a shot at winning.

They must be kicking themselves for deciding to run an LMP2 last year.

And even then they were close to winning overall.

But just think what it would be like to have run the old LMP1 for years, have it be one of the most reliable LMP1s, and then decide to switch to LMP2 for 2017 only to get to Le Mans to watch the factory LMP1s drop like flies. They would have been handed a golden opportunity to be the first team to win overall with a non factory car since Joest won in 1997 with the TWR WSC-95 (privateer teams running the R8 don’t count in my book). The #2 Porsche was always going to get back past the LMP2s but I’m certain they would have still ended up several laps behind a Rebellion LMP1.

SMP and Dragonspeed certainly have the talent this year as well.

I actually think it would be cool for Rebellion racing to win it, but it seems unlikely. Gibson has made some awesome engines, but I can’t find anything about the GL458 in the LMP1 cars
