I’ve been semi-regularly seeing this Subaru Legacy with a silly tacked-on wing parked at the strip mall between my gym and house. Yesterday I stopped at the Walgreen’s in said strip mall, so I finally got around to taking a picture of it. Let’s count the performance enhancements!
While I did not perform a thorough inspection of this Legacy, I did check for any indications of turbo-ness like a GT badge or hood scoop. It has none of them. There’s a small chance the owner removed these turbo indications, but given all the other things they’ve added to the car, I doubt it. Those things include:
SUCH DOWNFORCE wing
Meh looking aftermarket wheels
Red brake caliper paint
Slotted & drilled brake rotors
Canister style mufflers
Window visors
DOUBLE
side mirror enhancements: convex mirrors and
visors
Subtle K&N logo stripes on the top of the door under the mirror
License plate cover (to prevent the man from scanning my shit, man)
Dark window tint that may be a little lighter on the front windows
I can’t handle all this added performance.

What a shame. Waste of a good color. And wow, those wheels are hideous

Hey, the box said 10hp!

Probably has a Stage 2 CVT

Bruh, he needs the wing to keep it on the road because of all the horsepower he’s added from his enhancements.
Or so he can eat his lunch.

Maybe it is at least a 3.6R? The only outward difference between a 2.5i and a 3.6R is that stock the 2.5i has 1 exhaust outlet while the 3.6R has two. Of course the bumpers on all models of this gen has 2 exhaust cut outs with the 2.5i getting an insert to fill the driver’s side cuttout.

They look way too small to. Like a subaru that skips leg day.

For the family man with a wife and kids who also vapes and has a flat brimmed hat?

That is a lot of money to blow on a stock Legacy. Not even the 3.6? Agree - those wheels make it look busy. Funny thing is if it’s the stock 2.5 then it would be slower than if they had done no mods with the heavier wheels and big parachute on the trunk...

Recalling how far the trunk hinge on these lets the trunk open I imagine that wing also hits the rear window/pillars every time you open the trunk.

Subaru does have a good rally legacy.

Don’t forget it’s a quad cam.

Since the wheels are probably a reduced diameter, he probably thinks that he accelerates way faster than he does due to speedometer error. Slams on his brakes when he sees a cop while going five under thinking he’s doing 15 over.

I don’t think the wheels are smaller. The stock ride height and huge fender flares make the wheels look small.

Done correctly....

And it’s even in a chain pharmacy parking lot!

Sorry, I meant overall diameter of the wheel tire package. The low profile tires look much smaller than the stock 26.7" diameter.

Gotta rep the Midwest... I think this may be my last Winter/Spring with it though, but it’s a hard car to replace.
The AWD, manual sports sedan is dying a sad death...

I think the term ricer is way over used.
Having said that, this thing fits the original definition of rice rocket.

The stock tire size on the base base base model is 205/60-16. Conceivably these could be something like a 225/45-18 and they would look dinky with the ride height and shape of the fenders.

I saw 225/55R17, looking at a 2016 base. It’s a big tire, these don’t look it. I get what you’re saying about the fender gap, but it seriously doesn’t look factory on overall size at all. Only one way to truly know.

Small wheels = cheap lowering kit and an increase in applied torque.
Enhancement.

Why hate? If he likes it, he likes it. Props to him for not throwing on a GT badge or Twin Turbo sticker to fake, which cost like $6.00 on eBay; less than the “double convex mirrors”. He’s not at fault for you mistaking his car for a boosted one; you’re the idiot here.

done correctly? done what exactly? Put some 17's and Eibach’s on it? -done not much.

I didn’t mistake anything. I saw the silly wing and other mods, checked for the exterior features I know would identify it as a turbo, and then noted that the silly wing had been applied to what I know to be a slow, non-turbo base model Legacy.
People like all kinds of silly stuff, the fact that they like it doesn’t make it less silly.
But ok.

In his defense, the only ways to quickly distinguish the GT is the hood, badge, wheels, and sort of the exhaust, all of which he looked for.

You sure it’s not a 3.6R? Err...you don’t know what that is huh? Check yourself before you start bashing bro. -silly stuff.
![]() 03/06/2018 at 15:23 |

The 3.6R has a 3.6R badge below the Legacy badge, like this:
The car I posted does not have this badge, and even if it did, a 3.6R is also not a turbo.
![]() 03/06/2018 at 15:32 |
|
Would you hate on it if it were a 3.6R, just because it’s not turbo?
![]() 03/06/2018 at 15:46 |

Hate is a strong word. At most, I’m making light of the choice of these additions to the car. And I would make light of these mods on any pedestrian car.
I’m also making light of your “BUT WHAT IF IT’S A 3.6R?” question because A) it’s not a 3.6R and B) if it were a 3.6R that wouldn’t change the “it’s not a turbo” headline.
Time for you to chill.

I knew a guy who did this (and more) to a Legacy as well. Best part was that it was leased and he stated “this stuff adds value to the car, so im sure Subaru wont mind it being returned like this”. He included painting all of the interior trim, some aftermarket front/rear lips, crazy sound system, and all of this crap. Didnt know this was a Legacy thing but apparently it is.
