According to the seller, his MB dealer said they would need to replace the entire transmission at the great cost of $9,000.

Edit: Forgot to say it has 127k miles too

I feel like my love for doing uneconomic repairs on unreliable, painful to own vehicles is well documented and I still vote CP.

Neat car, but (A) if the torque converter/ transmission is dead, I assume this was due to neglect by the owner. What other problems lurk from deferred maintenance? And (B) even if you fix it, you’ll still have a pretty ugly minivan, albeit a fast one.

Yeah, sorry. Didn’t notice that at first. I wonder what led them to that conclusion? One would assume the first step would be to do a fluid and filter change before jumping to replacing the transmission. Maybe drop the pan and look for lost friction material.

I’m genuinely interested and will try to buy it if the price stays low enough. When I get back to the shop from lunch I’m going to pull up history and the trans diagnosis if they uploaded it. These transmissions are stupid easy to take apart. If I do buy it though I’ll be selling the E55. Which would be bittersweet.
