Happy March! Congrats on making it through February. Spring isn’t here yet, but it’s right around the corner. The days are starting to get longer, snow is giving way to rain, and there’s only another three months until hockey season wraps up with the Stanley Cup Finals (seriously, I love hockey, but it feels like they play 14 months a year!).

In case you’re new (in which case, welcome!): Favorites are chosen by one of the Snout Selectors (KrabbyPaddy, mrsfinch, facw, Xyl0c41n3, Chuckles or CBG), entirely on our own whimsy. WHIMSY. However, in the interest of solidarity, we try to select one dog picture and one cat picture (minimum!) each week. Other pets will also, of course, be considered. We love all your rats, bunnies, ferrets and other furry, feathery & finny pals. WE WILL NEVER DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CUTE. As always, we’re happy to dismiss any pictures if you decide you want them taken down at some point.

If you don’t have a pet of your own to feature this week, I highly recommend featuring and linking to any cuties who are available for adoption and looking for a home on any shelter or rescue site. I know I’m not the only one lurking on Petfinder!

In that sharing spirit, if you don’t have a pet but want to participate, drop off your best Internet find of an animal gif or meme or tweet in the comments. FFF, please meet Nero, a quality dog. He picked me up at the start of a 5.5h hour snow shoe hike and accompanied me nearly to the end, playing endless rounds of fetch. Just short of my destination, he was recognized as the nice dog who likes to pick strangers to go on walks with. They took him more than halfway to his home, from where he finds his own way back.

I told Mr Krimi, who‘d like to have a dog one day, that I strongly recommend getting a quality dog like Nero. Playful, friendly, intelligent, never out of sight, maybe a bit too trusting, cold resistant (we had -18 degrees C/0F), good endurance... what more could you want?

I somehow missed last weeks FFF! But thank you for featuring Fanny vs the Carrot. We got her DNA test back. She’s 2/3 Bloodhound and 1/3 Treeing Walker Coonhound. And I shouldn’t have told her, because now every time we take a walk she tries to climb a tree!

This DNA news is fascinating, and it also explains Miss Fanny’s extraordinary good looks - she’s got a lovely long lean face, but with fewer of the bloodhound wrinkles.

When we got her we were told she was a Bloodhound. And as a pup she looked it. But as she grew it became obvious she wasn’t a purebred. So we did the DNA test. I was surprised it came back with Treeing Walker. I was thinking Redbone.

We have a Bloodhound and a Treeing Walker that come to the dog park. She’s built more like the Bloodhound, the coonhound is finer boned. But yes, she’s less wrinkled than a Bloodhound. She’s one of a kind our Fanny!

It could be considered part of their inheritance from the Ancestor Kittehs.

I had my little desk-table at the end of it for a while, to sit at cross-legged and computate while the previous two snuggled up against me. The girls do get the most use out of it these days, but occasionally they graciously let me share it for naps or loud-neighbor related emergencies.

Haha I run into the same problem here - I have a king bed and a small 7 lb cat, but somehow she always manages to arrange herself on the bed so that we have to contort ourselves around her. It’s so cute though!

Ooooh, jealous. Lal has gotten to where she’ll let me boop them sometimes, and if I’m really lucky, get in a brief rub. I got spoiled by my boo baby, who would walk right up to me and plop down and push her feet onto me like I was a big squishy ottoman.
