That was about a year before I stumbled onto Jalopnik.

A friend showed me jalopnik in early 2009, and i started commenting in May of that year.

Seriously though, I liked the star system a lot. Got here a little too late to have the time to actually earn one though.

I remember when Shant got his CR-Z and when $kay had the Explorer.
Now get off my lawn.

I did too, I was one of the few to earn a star on oppo.
I liked the old system, but Kinja has some very useful features. I actually don’t usually have that many issues with it. Issues people have with images getting Kinja’d seems to be more of a lack of understanding on how Kinja deals with the image. For example, I can copy paste a picture on my mac, but on a windows machine, I have to paste the image URL.

I’ve been reading Jalopnik since it got brought into the Gawker fold. But I was always just the occasional Oppo lurker up until a few years ago.
Anyone remember when Consumerist and Fleshbot were part of the Gawker family?

Oh the golden days of hashtags, when we could create a new subforum in milliseconds.

I did really like that. Although I think I prefer how they’ve separated it into posts and comments.

Anyone remember when everyone stayed gray until PeteJayhawk (et al) approved you to comment? No burners, no trolls. No Oppo, either, but back then the FP had the same tone as Oppo does today.

Nope, haven’t been around that long.

Yep, just being able to comment on the FP was an audition process that took weeks or months. The result was that FP articles often had 20-50 total comments, but they were mostly good. Everyone else was just a reader or commenting hopeful. Most of Oppo would have no trouble making the cut. It was a refreshing approach in the freeforall internet world.

I do remember when when the FP was more like oppo.
