The last four Robert Plant albums have been nothing short of the best stuff he’s done since the early 1970's...the comfort and confidence he has in his voice at this time in his life is amazing.

I like your assessment. Kashmir is in the pantheon of my favorite rock and roll songs of all time. Robert Plant will be 70 in August.

Pictures at Eleven and Principle of Moments are still high in my listening rotation. I’m fond of Raising Sand , too, with Alison Krauss.

I reserved it at the Library. Once I’ve ripped it, I can send you the MP3s.

There’s an inertia about the piece, reminiscent of Kashmir.

Both of those early solo records are currently lost to me. The former I only ever had on cassette and the latter is on vinyl and my record player is out of service.
I like Raising Sand...but there’s something about it that takes away from the talents of both artists in their other works. What remains is merely ‘nice’.

Plant hooking up with Justin Adams was inevitable...Adams is a marvel at Middle Eastern tinged blues and quite a performer in his own right....check out Desert Road or his colabs with Juldeh Camara.
Edit: and I think that’s Seth Lakeman on the fiddle! Another fabulous muso in his own right...has some great albums.

Both Plant records are available on CD. I had the vinyl back in the day, and replaced them with CD about 15 years ago. I think your critique of Raising Sand is dead on, too.

Is that a fiddle or is that a viola?

Looks like it. You can usually tell the violas from the violins because the viola players’ heads are smaller.

And the play a lot of 32nd notes, I have heard.
That video is remarkable. I love the sound of middle-eastern influenced music.

I find her music to be a bit amorphous for my taste.

It does wander a bit, and is a bit self-important. I went through a serious McKennitt phase about 10 years ago, but haven’t listened to it in a long time. But the Arab influences immediately came to mind. Try this one. It’s more Hindu influence, but has a similar sound. Imogen Heap is one of my all-time favorites.

I love that analysis; nails it.
