I limped into Kia service this morning on the emergency spare tire that had to be changed in the highway Saturday. The K900 service guy, Craig, found the breach in the sidewalk that caused the flat. He also took pics of the chrome peeling off the edges of the rim. I don’t know if it was doing that before the flat.
He didn’t have a tire, but he’s getting me one. He’s also ordering me a new rim under warranty. He got me an Optima loaner for a couple days until the wheel comes in. So, all told, better than I’d feared.
Then, he took me back to the bay where they were working on this Stinger GT. The guy who bought it is having them put on pretty much every dealer option available. New exhaust, and a bunch of other stuff I can’t remember. You can see the new wheels and the brakes. They’re also lowering the suspension. They techs are really enjoying putting this car together. The whole thing is adding about $8k to the price. I sat in one, the interior is nice with real aluminum trim. I put it halfway between my Sedona and my K900 on the poshness index, which is appropriate.

That’s great that they’re getting you a new rim!

I wonder what the total cost after mods, tax, and financing end up being. 60-70 thousand dollar Kia? Craziballs.

Those wheels are awful and that guy is an idiot.

That’s S5 Sportback or 440i GC money. Personally I’d rather have those, but I think some people that can afford it just don’t want the luxury badge so they can be a little under the radar. But probably they are just crazy.

Wow, your K900 is the closest I’ve come to “spotting” one. Still haven’t seen one in the wild. Ever.
It’s on my 2020 list of replacement cars for the current hooptie.

Also if you’re planning on keeping it for a long time I guess the warranty is pretty appealing? That’s one way to defeat the crazy depreciation hit you’d be taking with one of these (or any car you’re throwing serious money down on) – just know you’ll be OK owning it for many years.

That’s what I was wondering. But, hey, I know the quality is there. If the performance is there, too, then why do I care what badge is on it? What matters if do I get what I want for my money.

Not what I would have chosen, but I don’t find them that offensive.

Yes, and I didn’t have to make an argument to get it considered. That counts big time for me with a service department.

They don’t make a lot of them. Craig told me they don’t get them in to the dealership much, and when they do, they’re sold right away. That makes me wonder if most of them are ordered. Regardless, they’re not a big money maker for Kia, so they don’t build many each year. Which works for me, because I like having something unusual on the road.

Pretty sure those are the standard Stinger GT brakes.

I think you’re right. I looked that up later and saw that they get standard Brembos. I have no experience with aftermarket brakes, so I’ll hide behind that ignorance.
