1967: the best year for a classic corvette... and I’ll passive aggressively roll my eyes at anyone who says differently!

Because silver is overrated.
![]() 02/26/2018 at 08:58 |

This is a true fact.

Nice! That stuff is exactly the same age as me!

Happy Birthday! Have some cake................and champagne!
![]() 02/26/2018 at 09:02 |

I’m a sucker for cool European sports cars in unexpected colors - this gives it a different character than silver, I love it!

Hot wheels turn 50 this year.
Congrats on 50 laps around the sun from another old dude.

Thanks! I’d love to have that champagne with a little OJ for breakfast, but unfortunately I’m at work... :(

I saw the U-2 in flight at Oshkosh 2 years ago - what a stunningly beautiful airplane it is!
![]() 02/26/2018 at 09:08 |

Wow - I did not know that! Grew up spending 90% of my time playing with Hot Wheels, Matchbox cars, and Legos...

Bertone’s always good for something different.

Remember, you’re only as old as you feel. Or, my corollary, which is, you don’t have to feel as old as you are. Happy Birthday!
Plus some things that also took flight for the first time in 1968.
![]() 02/26/2018 at 09:09 |

Fun fact matchbox is way older.
![]() 02/26/2018 at 09:09 |

Well, congratulations... Hold up a mirror to where an image of an old thing would be.

Why the hell would I want to look at that? :)
![]() 02/26/2018 at 09:15 |

Awesome stuff, thanks! Love the pit lane photo (what a different time) and that C-5 in particular!

Production began in 1968 for all of these three (DC-10, 747, and L-1011), with first flights a couple years later:

All 3 great airplanes - - I’ve taken many trips on the DC-10 and 747, though only a few on the L-1011.

![]() 02/26/2018 at 09:26 |

Yes, additionally it is sitting next to an Icon of an era as old as the car itself: The National Autonomous University of Mexico.

Happy Birthday! Here is a 1968 Porsche 912 for you. I used to think 50 was the edge of old but now that my mom is about to turn 50 I realize it’s really just middle aged.

YESSSS!!!!!
In the late 70's, my dad bought a blue ‘65 with a wrecked front end from a friend. It came with a donor car with a good front end. My dad and the seller spent a week swapping the good front end over to the otherwise good car.
A week later, my dad rear-ended somebody.
The next day, he was driving it anyways (it was his only car), and the entire steering column came off in his hand. Luckily there was no traffic, because the brakes pulled to the left.
A friend of his patched the steering column back together by welding an impact socket over the break. He made my dad swear to never tell anybody who did it (dad kept his word, I have no idea which friend did the deed), and then Dad sold it as-is.
A little epilogue to the story:
Some 30+ years later, after our wedding rehearsal dinner, some of my friends and I were shooting the breeze and telling stories, when the subject of Bob (insert now forgotten last name here), the alcoholic security guard at our high school came up. My dad interrupted and said, “Wait, Bob ____?”
My friend said, “Yeah, Bob ____ was one of the security guards at DHS, and he was drunk literally all the time.”
Dad cocked his head sideways and said, “That’s the guy who sold me the Corvair!”

Hahaha - that’s awesome! And yeah, it’s amazing what was done to keep some of these cars on the road back then!
![]() 02/26/2018 at 11:05 |

Thanks! What are those? The 2nd one looks fairly Corvette-like.

Yeah, I’m sure it still happens more than we think, but all done by shady body shops, to cars dumped at BHPH lots.
I know of a home done front end swap as late as the late 90's. My best friend’s mom DD’d a ‘77 Ford LTD. One day she was following his dad towing the family boat to the lake, since the family couldn’t all fit in the truck, when she smacked into the outboard motor.
His dad bought a motorless ‘77 T-Bird for $200, dragged it home with a chain tied to his truck (mom was in the T-Bird to steer and stop). He swapped the whole front end over, complete with working flip-down headlights, giving them the world’s only 4-door T-Bird.
![]() 02/26/2018 at 13:02 |
|
Nice! But not the world’s only 4 door T-Bird - my grandfather had one of these when I was very little. Bought new the year I was born:
![]() 02/26/2018 at 13:10 |

I forgot about those!
OK, the world’s only 4-door ‘77 T-Bird :)

Almost missed this. I’d post a pic of myself, but I’m not old enough to meet the criteria! Nah, nah. (well, not for two months anyway)
![]() 02/26/2018 at 13:21 |
|
Thanks! I’ve got a buddy who’s 2 months older than me - - I gave him a lot of grief over being an old man at his party in December, so it’s only fair for you to return the favor!
Nice Camero!

They were pretty rare even in the early 70's. Only made them for a few years, and I think they were a small % of sales.

I married a girl who is three years older than me. Best move I ever made. She can make fun of my grey, but she knows to not take it too far because she is so open to retaliation. :D
Those Camaros are the best reason to watch Guy Fieri’s show. Just remember me when it’s my time in April, and be as generous.
![]() 02/26/2018 at 13:44 |

Wise move ! I will be sure to remember — and yeah, that’s my favorite part of that show, too!

Love that Blackbird shot!
