Update: I was at church helping to clean up after a weekend retreat when it happened. My wife’s two best friends were there and are both nurses (one is an ER nurse). We iced and elevated right away and talked it over. The ER would take x-rays, splint it up, and tell me to go to OrthoIndy tomorrow. So, we called our friends that work for OrthoIndy and they came over with the sports medicine bag. They say potentially broken fibula but likely just a kick ass sprain. They splinted me up and told me to come see them tomorrow.

Moral of the story: be careful carrying stuff down stairs, and make sure you surround yourself with an AWESOME community of friends.

Or at least a few medical professionals. I play for the School of Nursing commencement every year at UT, and the dean always closes by saying, “And now your family has its very own nurse to turn to....” Glad to hear it’s not serious. One of the boys on my son’s soccer team left the game last week with a very similar-looking sprain.
