I didn’t think that I’d ever watch a 40+ minute video on a hair dryer but here I am. I think the first one I watch was a comparison between an old Snap-On air wrench (impact gun? That air gun that mechanics use to change F1 tires and your regular tires) and a Harbor Freight something or other.

His vernacular is interesting and amusing. I recommend this channel for anyone who’s a technical nerd, I’m sure there’s at least a couple of videos that each Oppo will enjoy since being car nerds involves a certain level of technical curiosity and knowledge.

AvE is both hilarious and highly informative. His vernacular can be confusing at first but after a month of watching you will find that you will start using some of his terms.

When you hear his highly technical terminology in context, in makes sense. If you heard it for the first time completely out of context it would make no sense.

AvE rocks! and it’s educational, too! while changing my wheel bearing last week, I reminded myself that “safety squints” are necessary before using brake cleaner...

Have you seen the one where he sneaks across the border to steal the blood of trees?

I love AvE, and I’ve accidentally learned a bunch about electrical engineering since I started watching.

That sounds like a sweet episode. (Is it about maple sap and syrup?)

My favorite is the thumb detector. (hammer)

Oddly my father used to call good stuff skookum also.

I prefer the thumb detecting nut fucker (adjustable wrench with the smacking bit on the back).

You have a choice. You can run now, scrub AvE’s existence from your memory and live in relative peace. Or you can stay and be a slave to the refresh button on his channel.

Weird as this sounds, one of his terms actually really helped me with understanding how certain things function mechanically. I tend to get hung up on the details, and sometimes can’t make sense of how they work. Instead of accepting that they DO work like a normal person would I dismiss the entire concept, big picture be damned. (eg it took me forever to figure out how a differential worked—I had several books on auto function and repair and every time I saw the diagram my eyes pretty much glazed over and I just skipped ahead.)

The term is JFM. If I come across something I don’t understand the inner workings of something I can now just insert “JFM” and move on to overall function.

Like I said, weird. But good.
