I dun press-ed muh PWR button! Which is short for... Ectoplasmic Power!
So, what it does is lets the revs go higher before shifting. On a torquey short-shifting 5 speed (seriously, it will shift before 2500 rpm), this is actually quite useful. And makes it a little more fun.
Doggo for the 30 seconds of your life you won’t get back:

That gauge cluster never gets old.
The 80 series and some 100 series cruisers had the same button, but labled PWR and 2ND for starting in second gear. The 80 is also a chronic short-shifter.

OCD alert: the tach and speedo have centrally-oriented numbers, but the “E/F” on the fuel gauge, the MPGs, and temp are all oriented vertically.
WHYYYYYYY?!?!

30mpg in an IS300? I’m calling shenanigans.

My old Camry had a PWR button too. I pressed it all the time. It didn’t really seem to do anything

I think Toyotas in general are short shifters. You had to be pushing it hard to get my Corolla to rev past 2.5k.

Not only are you a doctor, but your car is too.

It’s a vacuum gauge of lies

It’s more likely a CAN controlled gauge which uses current speed and fuel flow rate to calculate the instantaneous MPG.

Indeed I was coming here to say the exact same thing. I wish more manufacturers or even Lexus for that matter tried to do something interesting and exciting like this still. They’re all so...eh I mean sure I guess these new lcd clusters are a thing but my 80’s upbringing makes me leery of a fully digital dash.

My mother’s ‘99 4-runner has a button “ECT” and I have no idea what it’s for. Would it be the same as this, to let it rev out higher? Makes more sense in your car than an SUV though.
