The also painted over some rotted wood on the deck rails. In addition, the posts from the roof through the deck were out of plumb by several inches. Whether the house was sinking or the deck was built like shit, we will never know.

heh... my landlord pulled some shit like that.. my back door has a massive split nearly top to bottom so i called him and said it needed fixing or replacing... he sent his handy lads out

my door is now held together by its own weight in primer and a fresh coat of paint.....

The person/people who built the deck on our house had no clue what they were doing...once I started tearing it apart I was in disbelief that it was still mostly standing based on how poorly it was put together.

What do you mean ‘used to be’ ? It’s still the leading choice for siding in the US, unfortunately. Not a week goes by that someone doesn’t canvass my neighborhood and try to get all the old shingled houses to ‘upgrade’.

Now aluminum siding....those were the days!
