There aren’t enough tips in the world.

I saw one of those on the side of the road one day, should’ve stopped and picked it up so I could festoon it to the roof of the M3 on occasion.

Well, that’s one way to legally work for below minimum wage!

I had a pizza delivery guy in Houston driving a 3-series. New enough that he wouldn’t likely be on the hook for expensive repairs, but also new enough that delivering pizza can’t have been a good way to pay it off. Maybe his family had money and the job was just about learning responsibility.

I’ve seen a guy delivering pizzas in a Mazda RX-8 once. I think it’s probably the worst choice when you consider the gas mileage.

That would’ve been funny!

There used to be one around here in a new FRS with a few cosmetic modifications. I later saw it parked in front of a bank for about two weeks before it disappeared (aka: voluntary repo).

Probably. I grew up in a pretty wealthy town, and delivered pizza in high school. There were a couple guys there in similar situations. I wasn’t one of them!

I think at the end of the week, you probably owe money.

A2003-ish F-350 Dually Papa Johns or Dominoes truck runs around town. Most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

Damn! I think the RX-8 still wins the stupid prize though. The dually is at least likely to be reliable.

That’s an E55 AMG with a Jimmy John’s delivery sign on the roof - bad picture, but it was one of the most beat up AMG’s I’ve seen too.

BTW - this was at Midwest Road and 22nd street in OB a while back.

It would be the diesel 6.0L though and those kind of suck... but imagine all the pizzas you can carry!

I saw a prior gen A4 with an Uber sticker the other day. Seems like a dangerous game.

Best local pizza delivery car I have seen is a Peugeot 505 (old cars survive here).

We have a new leader in the game of stupid!

Right in my stomping grounds too.

Could be a gas 5.4 or V10 as well. Any of those motors, flawed as they all are, would be better than a rotary (sorry rotary fans!)

Very dangerous game!

I understand those 505s were pretty rugged, so that could actually work out OK.

My theory is that people doing this fall into 1 of 2 categories - either a) rich kids whose parents bought the car and are making them work a bit or b) people that lost higher paying jobs and are just scrambling to make a few bucks where they can.

I am surprised it wasn’t blowing soot, but there’s a good chance a dash light or 3 was lit up.

Yeah, a 505 should be OK - IF you can turn a wrench yourself - as you will be doing so frequently. Kind of like old MBs, they will last forever, but only if you maintain them.

The siren song of cheap German hardware is just too much for many to resist. They will need to learn the hard way, that there is nothing more expensive than a cheap German car.

Now I wish I had taken a picture of that Corvette I saw a few years ago, used to deliver Hungry Howies. C5, IIRC.

Kinja'd!!!1

Wow.

To think, I delivered pizza in high school, and I actually took shit once from a customer for delivering in too nice a car. It was a decade old $3000 Oldsmobile (that was bleeding me dry!).

Related: I discovered that I got better tips, if I put duct tape on my shoes. I discovered it by accident, when I had a blowout in my shoe at work one night, but I started doing it on purpose after that.

We used to have a guy in a porsche boxster, we always wondered how that would affect his tips. One of the guys who was part time had a mercedes. In an interesting turn of events, a cop ran into him running a red light without his lights or sirens on, then jumped in another cruiser and took off. Pizza delivery is a weird intersection of “professionals,” kids, part timers, and students kind of interesting what people have.

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah it really is an odd bunch. There was nothing sadder than those old “professionals” who never did anything but deliver pizza.

Kinja'd!!! StudyStudyStudy > shop-teacher
02/23/2018 at 16:42

Kinja'd!!!1

Yup, sometimes there is a reason. A character flaw, short fuse, odd views, things that probably wouldn’t allow them to go very far in a more professional environment. Then there are the old guys who just do it because it is good money, easy, and they are good at it.
