A co-worker that I often carpool with took his Escape into the dealership because the vehicle indicated the engine coolant level was low. They did some poking around, and said that the “heater hose” needs replacement. They are saying that it’s not in stock, it’s back-ordered, and won’t be available for a month. As a result, they want to keep his vehicle for that time, until they get the part in stock. As you can understand, he’s not particularly pleased about the situation (including the 2 hours labour at $133/hour, plus $52 for the part and $30 for coolant, plus a few other miscellaneous charges) that they want to charge him to fix it.
My thought was to keep an eye on the coolant level, and keep it topped up, but keep driving it until the part arrives. It’s not like it was gushing fluid, so as long as he keeps a close eye on it, it should be fine.
I’m trying to track down a hose for him, but Rock Auto and any other places I’ve checked don’t seem to have it. They said it was part CV6Z18472AB. Since he’s out of warranty, he’s not too worried about replacing it with a stock Ford part. Any guesses on where else I might be able to track down this part for him?

Any at a local salvage yard that would suffice?

edit if you enter the p/n into amazon, ford shows out of stock, but go to more buying options and that same ebay seller is selling the part for less with free shipping.

What year Escape? There seems to be no aftermarket cross-reference for that part number.

When a heater hose goes, it explodes and you loose all your water in a mater of seconds. I would buy one from rock auto or ebay and DIY if feasible.

I googled the part number and found it for sale at various places. Maybe hit up AutoZone/Pep Boys/Advance Auto?
Also, if the thing is out of warranty, why the heck is he going to the dealer for service?

When I had my SVT I bought parts from Tasca Ford because they were way better than my local dealer. Give them a ring to check it’s stock. Should get it faster than the ebay or amazon option. Maybe it wasn’t tasca, it was some place in minnesota.

If it’s in dire need he could get by with something “close” to stock. If it’s a little long just chop it down. Could check the wreckers too, used is better than a hose blow-out.

I hadn’t thought of that. Might be worth checking out, but it also sounds like a common point of failure. Going with a brand new one might be better.

Looks like ya they do. No dealers in canada have one? Or is it just that this dealer blows and doesn’t want to order something in from another dealer?

Ha ha! Most of my coworkers drive Toyota Carollas, other generic SUVs or trucks.
And that’d be illegal. :p
