That is insane! I wonder if he had to glue some of the pieces together...

The weight measurement was what absolutely blew my mind.

I want one...that size, but made of steel. Make it so it’s rated to 1000lbs load and boom, coolest engine hoist IN THE WORLD!

Cool, much better than the giant multicolored aircraft carrier I built as a kid... currently my latest project im trying to do because my friend has 200 acres north of here, is build a real trebuchet like on Northern Exposure and fling a piano like on the show. So far my friend says no, but I can wear him down I think....

My 5 year old is just getting into legos and is already very good with them, and also fascinated by every new set he sees. He also asked for a remote controlled crane for christmas, and we got him a cheap one... this will blow his mind!

One of my dreams is to build a trebuchet on my future acreage and fling pumpkins etc. My wife thinks I’m crazy...
In high school my friend and I built a very oversized crossbow using a railroad tie and a leaf spring off a 1/2 ton truck. We quit after we couldn’t find a winch strong enough (but mostly cheap enough) to pull the spring back with any significant force, which was probably a good thing.

I don’t know how old you are but this is one of my favorite shows of all time and this scene make a lasting impression!

I’ve never seen that before, but thanks for sharing!
I got most of my inspiration from watching pumkin chunkin specials on discovery, plus I had a good friend who I could nerd out with on these kinds of things. We found software programs where you could play with all sorts of settings, I built several K’nex models that could trow a marble a good 30' when tuned right, we actually had some plans drawn up for a larger scale one, just never got around to building it.
I see in the video that they use what I’d call a “fixed weight”, I’m more fond of a “free weight” myself, tends to give you more arm speed and more distance. Tends to be a bit more violent though so you gotta have the structure to support that.

Why yes, I do happen to have a $20,000 engine hoist, would you like to see it?

All the stupid stuff I would do if that kind of money was pocket change
