I’m looking forward to declarations of “they just lost a sale!” from people who were never going to buy one anyway.

But how am I supposed to buy the version I want used in 7 years if it was never sold that way to begin with?

I would buy one if I could afford it, even if it is auto-only.

I really don’t understand it, same thing with the “outrage” over the demon. Like, I love manuals as much as the next OPPO and have never owned an auto (jalop cred yo) but what the fuck did you expect? Are ye deaf blind daft and under a rock?

I wouldn’t buy one new regardless, but if it’s an autobox only I won’t even be interested when they reach the bottom of the depreciation curve.
Kinda like an auto Corvette. You can pretty much keep it.
... unless I got into bracket racing. Then auto all day long.

This. All of this. “The automakers should make what I want, at great cost to them, so I can buy it used in 10 years”.

And the people that were going to buy one? I guess they’ll just have to swap out the 6 speed from the Yaris GRMN...

Well, you do need used car buyers as well otherwise depreciation will be brutal. Weak argument, I know
Having said that, with a raise and some other changes in circumstances I might consider it. But never with an automatic.

You’re a sick, sick person.

When I have the means, I’d buy one with a shiftable auto transmission.
ETA: As a second car, because kids.

And forget that 75% of Supras available for sale are automatic.

Idk, I would buy a brand new Dodge Caravan if they would sell me an SE with the GT suspension, wheels, lights, and bumpers.

PanchoVillanueve ST! I suppose now is as good of a time as any to ask: are you doing the Oppo Rally again this year?

I was a manual or GTFO guy until my MK7 GTI with DSG. We had to downsize and to save up some money I sold my Jeep JK and GTI. Knowing I need to haul things and would need to steal the wife’s van and her bad knees preclude manual, I held my nose and bought a DSG. Turns out I loved it. There were places where it wasn’t as fun as the MKV with manual, but very few. The paddles were great and being able to click over into auto in traffic was magic.
I wouldn’t want a straight slushbox, but a DSG type that shifts fast with the paddles would make me consider it over a manual. In a few years I hope to upgrade my 996 to a 991, and unlike the 996 where I didn’t even consider anything Tiptronic, I’ll absolutely test a PDK car with an open mind.
I’ve got to think that a Supra will have a dual clutch as well. It’ll be worth considering and getting over preconceived notions of autos.
