But nowhere near the adventure level of a certain red Miata. Still good times though. Put the blizzaks back on the rear for this trip, instead of just running DWS’s like I have been when I go up. Forgot how much better the blizzaks are. An open diff and all the torque in the world don’t make for the best traction, but they sure can make some fun!

When I had mine and it would snow here, I’d just run around on all seasons. Only had one issue, on a hill where I had to stop. These are very balanced cars, and I think the option of 2nd gear start helps too.

Yeah for sure. But steep and icy roads can be problematic, and snow was in the forecast. There have been multiple times where any amount of throttle would engage TC while going uphill, so I largely had to rely on momentum. Not even terribly steep hills, just that icy. But zero issues with the blizzaks.

I never ran winter tires on my car, but I also never ventured into the mountains in the snow, and in the city here we don’t seem to get it as bad as Portland. As long as the car kept moving, or the incline was minor, it was fine. I remember the noise from the traction control and ABS. The one time I got stuck (one must stop on a hill and turn to get into the workplace parking garage), I was able to get the car off the road, walked down and bought some cat litter for under the tires, and was able to get out. I then put the bag of cat litter on my boss’s desk.

Here’s a good old pic I found, from the snow event of 2008 - parked outside, as I learned my lesson trying to enter the garage. Looks like I’m the only RWD there:

Blizzaks are amazing. Been using various versions for winters since I started driving (didn’t need them in San Diego). I have a set for my current car that I use if it ever gets cold enough (it rarely does here).

Nice 210...I miss working on my in-laws’ E320 before my wife and I got married. Major brownie points once they realized an oil change wasn’t $120 anymore.

In snowboard news, go check out the surprise win in the women’s (skiing) Giant slalom by a Czech snowboarder. That’s just awesome...you don’t see a lot of two-sport athletes at that level, let alone gold medalists.

Oh man. I bet that’s an absolute blast up in the mountains. Looking like Seattle might get some snow this week, if so I’ll be sure to snap a Miata hooning picture for the AMG!

Thanks! 210's are fantastic. Lots of underserved internet hate.

I haven’t paid any attention to the games, no time! But I need to pull some videos and watch. I love the winter games.

It’s a blast everywhere! But I’m the mountains I don’t need to worry about tire wear! I love talking it up there because it’s so wrong for that task, which I think you might be able to relate to.

Same here. I grew up in FL so it was always a novelty to see. I moved up north for a few years as a teen and took up snowboarding when most ski resorts still wouldn’t allow it, or had special areas for it. Then it was added to the Olympics and gained mass acceptance (mostly).
