I sent Patrick an email with a link to a few of the stories so far. He said he’ll take a look at them! Maybe some Oppo/FrontPage Collab again here soon?

Thanks! How to host a cross thread:
1) Pick a Thursday you’d like to host and clear with me that it’s not already taken.
2) Write a cross thread post and include links to all member blogs:
Whitenoise , Hackerspace , Groupthink , Powder Room , Odeck , Tay , Oppo , Backtalk , Clashtalk , CrossTalk , Gawrker , and The Salad Bowl .
I usually just copy the whole block and paste it into the new thread.
3) Publish the cross thread to one of the member blogs
4) Email story645@gmail.com to share it out to all the other blogs.

Well I was shown a fix for a problem I had with my phone. I haven’t been able to send attachments in texts. Matter of fact, if I tried, even the text itself wouldn’t get through. Someone at the telco explained that I need to have “mobile data” flipped on, even though mobile data isn’t part of my plan with them.
In any case, it worked. I don’t know if that’s a dahhh moment, because it doesn’t seem like an obvious solution to the problem I had. But, solution IT IS !

Word up, Kinja. I’m new to this crosstalk lark. Here’s my first contribution: I just noticed that millenials (I am millenial) are totally killing folk music performances! I played a gig this week where almost the whole audience was about 75yo. I’m gonna chalk it up to the fact that it was in a small venue and cost 10 GBP, and also you can get loads of free music around here by going to open sessions where there are some good players. Second contribution: anyone else getting really tired of certain (ahem) commenters on the Jez and Splinter mainpages commenting with multiple essays per day?

OH no! Don’t do that! The good stuff must prevail! That jinx thing was just a cheap spell cast upon you by a cranky small-minded sorcerer who lives up the way and hangs out at a McD’s. He hates his life. He drew a bad magic circle around his carton of fries and said...
“I will ruin it for the next person who walks past me... : <”
But because he was/is a small minded worker of smalltime spells, they can be broken just by somebody gainsaying his curse.
I am here to bust his bubble! There! Done! : )

For my part, I wish there was a time I could feel not guilty for having nothing much to worry about. I have lots of those times, long stretches even, but the guilt doesn’t stay away for long. I wish I could have peace, to go with my quiet. I realize the guilt tripper is inside me, but it seems like others (somewhere out there) are criticizing me for my fairly quiet life, and that I should suffer more than I do, because the world is suffering.

I just noticed that millenials (I am millenial) are totally killing folk music performances!
It’s also not easy to be a fan of barbershop quartets right now. :( At least, everything I Pandora plays for me is from the 80s/90s at the latest.
But those have probably been dying for much longer at this point.

I could shift it I suppose, but it’s just that I’ve already booked the giant cake and the hot babe who pops out of it to wish me a happy birthday. Also, I have booked a medium to hold a seance whereat I will get to talk to Marilyn Monroe, coz she is to be my bride in the afterlife, and we have to make arrangements and decide who to invite.
All this has to take place on May 7. Sorry.

I’m a software developer and it was basically a conference. The final keynote was by someone who makes computer games using lasers instead of screens, the demo was absolute amazing :O :D I also followed some talks about security, which I didn’t know I was that interested in beforehand.
You’re into coding too, right? How’s it going for you?

The illusion that vampires have feelings is perpetuated by fictional works like Twilight. Real vampires are actually fully rational creatures, quite unlike humans. And they have accepted my liking of garlic as long as I consume it in their absence. In exchange I will help them catch animals whose blood to suck :)

And yup, I’m super into Python/borderline an annoying evangelist for it. I dig it for the most part. My speciality is data sciencey type stuff. What’s yours?

I’m really quite all-round. My company mostly does web applications but occasionally I get to do more complicated stuff. I also sometimes do maintenance for a week or two, which consists of fixing bugs and updating libraries mostly, though I might’ve gotten the green light to make a bot that largely automates the latter, which I’m pretty excited about :D
I’m also kind of an allrounder in terms of language. Recently found out that DotNet MVC is quite different from the MVC-frameworks for Python and Ruby that I’m used to. I really learned a LOT in just three weeks, feel like I’ve gone from absolute newbie w.r.t. the platform to a junior bordering on medior in them. Though I also found I dislike a lot about it, particularly that it’s not nearly as KISS as Rails and Django. (Though I’ve gotta admit I never actually built more than hello world in Django even though Python is my favourite language too XD)

Bots are fun and awesome for quick progress with respect to learning a new framework. :)

I’m technically a millenial too (at 30) and I’ve noticed that music styles fulfill different needs. Most pop-music isn’t really meant to be disected or listened to. It’s meant as background noise or just to flow along with. Classic music offers it’s hand and asks you to pay attention along the way.
Folk music (GBP, you mean poinds? British and Irish folk is fantastic) offer something in the middle. But you can’t not pay attention, and it’s not fit for every moment. As millenials we’ve been bombarded with bare-bones chords with basic vocals (especially in the 00's when modern rap was a thing) that basically taught us that music should sell itself instead of engaging with us. This hurts folk and classic styles tremendously as the questions they ask flies way over our heads. We don’t question music, it should just take us somewhere with no questions asked.
I hope that the tides will change. Because if I ever go to a concert (which I do like once every five years or so). I want to sit down, listen and analyse. I don’t like pop-music that much but I sure know I’m in the minority.
