GM minivan off the road, no loss

Rather have them on the road than Caravans of the same year. One actually responds when you turn the wheel. I actually had some fun in our Montana, you could drift pretty easy and it handled fairly well considering the suspension was about as firm as a piece of warm butter. The Caravan on the other hand understeered like a pig.

At the end of the day it’s like comparing turds, but to my mind the GM vans are at least a reasonably solid dump whereas their Chrysler counterparts are extremely runny.

Sortie not sortie.

I’ve never driven Caravans of the era, but I’ve logged thousands of miles behind the wheel of various ‘98 Chevy Ventures, and they are horrible to their very core. I’m so glad I’ll never have to do that again.

Must have been under 20 mph, the passenger cell isn’t crumpled.

Disagree. Pontiac Montana’s are driven by some of the worst people in the world

I have absolutely zero experience with those vans, but it seems like every time I see one, the wipers are stuck in a vertical position. I’m sure that there are better reasons to hate on them, but those damn wipers are the first thing I notice now.

Hateful, awful, miserable vehicles. Better than the dust buster vans they replaced, but that’s not saying much.

Ours was a few years newer... however the difference shouldn’t be that massive.

If you can’t find anything good to say them don’t drive a Caravan from around then, you’ll probably be suicidal.

You’ll notice the barrier has slid up a long way. Combining that with the fact that they’d be under hard braking, I’d put them at well over 20mph at time of initial impact

Well fuck you too then. I’M NOT THAT BAD I PROMISE

I maintain their vast superiority to Caravans by every measure. That said, I also prefer it to the current Sienna... but my reasons are totally invalid beside the reasons people actually buy minivans. The Sienna is far and away superior but the steering feel and throttle calibration are categorically awful and make it unbearable to me. The Montana’s—unbelievably—WERE better. Full stop. I can get into more detail if you like but I’m going to cut it off here for now because like I said it’s a minivan, if you can live with those things who cares

I was thinking of the well-known crash test:

Oh, right... yeah, they’re pretty brutal in crashes. Saw one that had been t-boned once... nope. No thanks.

Still, that test is offset against an immovable target, this guy hit the collapsing barrier head on. Had to be doing more than 20mph.

I agree they’re better! The fact that they still roam the roads is a major plus in their favor. I just find that 99% of the time they’re driven in brutal shape by someone you wouldn’t want near your kids.

I was just giving them a hard time. Don’t hate me :(

I’m shocked at how many are still out there, considering the issues they had with head gaskets. 150,000km was about where you could expect them to go. Either people keep fixing them (why) or are content with their engines destroying themselves.

idongetit
