Can you tell me why you'd swap your EJ25 with EJ20?

Ringlands.

VF-40

Top Mount intercooler.

Basically, the EJ255 sucks when it comes to reliability and longevity, especially when it comes to adding power.

Personally, I’d go for a 3.6R if I’m doing an engine swap though.

Weren’t they also less susceptible to head gasket issues?

I really don’t know anything about the EJ20, but almost any engine can have a better reputation for headgaskets than the non-turbo EJ25.

I don’t think it works like that.

reliability, go from open to closed deck.

but availability is the main reason. the JDM2.0 is WAY more available than the EJ251 which is what most of the 2.5 in the US are.

the only ej20 that worth while is the ej207

which is the jdm holy grail

the cylinder wall on the newer 207 are thicker than a yellow page (look it up comparing to the paper thin ej25 lol)

The EJ255 is plenty strong, its basically just an EJ25 with a different pistons, turbo and intercooler (and injectors I suppose), especially the older versions with metal intake runners. Though if you are going to be putting 400+ through them, yeah those pistons are going to be a liability...but why an EJ20? Just get an EJ25.
