Nothing to report on the Saab this week. Enjoy some pics of the ’Murlequin instead.
I thought about leaving all this snow in the bed in hopes that it might add a bit of weight, but my conscience got the best of me. I’d HATE to be the guy behind me if I left all this stuff in and drove it at speed.

BTW, anybody got a good project name for the Saab? Open to ideas...

How have you not made a snowman in the bed? Have you never seen a Calvin and Hobbes strip?

I’m eager to hear what they find! We seem to have the same problem, and it would sure be nice if the transmission doesn’t have to come out in order to address it. *fingers crossed*

I liked him in the first movie. I thought it was a shame he didn’t carry it over.

Good news! After an absolute emotional roller coaster (at first they absolutely ruled out the gearbox and it was in the console and needed more money, then it was the gearbox and it would need to be rebuilt, then it was the gearbox and maybe the could fix it) they fixed the problem! I guess 5th is its own thing and is controlled by a shaft in a hollow tube and they rusted together, more or less. They got a prybar in the right spot via one of the inspection covers and get it broken loose, but apparently it was quite the job.
Anyway, I am happy to report that for the low price of two hours of labor I have 5th gear again!

Wow, that’s great! That’s just about the best news one could hope for. It’s not so bad that it’s “inside the transmission” if all one needs to get to it is to pull an inspection cover. Considering the alternative is pulling the whole thing out, I think you did good, getting away with just two labor-hours.
