Earlier this week, my coworker managed to bump into the rear of my car. Thankfully it was really low speed and somehow the only damage is on that big gray plastic piece. I’m reminded of why I got a hot hatch - while inconvenient, it’s a stock ford part so it’s fixable and it looks like it won’t be an insurance claim and he’ll just pay cash instead. Getting an estimate on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Yeah seriously. My theory is his exhaust pipe tapped it. Only the exhaust tip has any scuffs on his car.

He said if it was more than 500$, he’d just go through insurance. And as near as I can tell, that piece is a standalone part along with the connectors. He is literally in the cube next to me so I am pretty sure he’ll hold himself to it.

Hell, if it’s cheap enough I offered to go half in on it to keep this off my car’s record. If it’s cosmetic stuff like the power valence trim piece, I don’t want it saying my.car was crashed.

A quick search yields this result:

It is a separate piece, PN: F1EZ-17232-A, retail price $267.08.

Don’t know what clips, if any, would need replaced, or how it attaches in the first place.

Online parts warehouses, such as this one ( not endorsing it, just an example ), seem to come in right around $200.

Just remember that your contract probably requires you to tell your insurance company it happened. It won’t affect anything unless you make a claim.

The bumper on the FoST is specific to the FoST and I understand that color is crazy hard to match, so I hope it didn’t damage any paint (you need to wash it). The lower half of the bumper is a separate part that attaches with tabs (the upper is shared between the ST and RS), so when that part was hit it could have damaged some of those. The upside is that it can all be purchased separately and you shouldn’t need to replace the whole bumper. It wouldn’t surprise me if you could swap it yourself...

I started to look near the theoretical impact site and there was no scrapes that I saw but yes, definitely washing it on Tuesday when it gets above 20F again.

And I told my coworker I would not do work myself just to make sure I didn’t run foul of my loan terms. If they say I need paint matched parts then it is what it is but hopefully they just say he stopped in time.and only blewout that piece. If not...well unfortunately it will be what it will be. It sucks for all involved but none of us also want to run afoul of anything

Which is odd since it’s the brightest color available and you’d think people would understand not to hit bright yellow things.

Yeah. I did see one supplier do ~300$ for the part and all the clips.

But I am also realistic and understand it might be a bit more damage than that and if it hits 400 or 500 or so, it’s on insurance at that point and we’ll go from there.
