"HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles" (hondasfordsvolvo)

So this a thing in the US now. Not surprising with the success of literally every compact crossover, or CUV. I remember murmurs of this coming state side bad in 2013. But what I don’t understand is why does it look so angery? Can we please be with aggressive faces on happy little compact cars?
Especially when the the Marketing is this bright an cheery. The ad is all rainbows and sunshine but the car looks like a pissed of, cubby, 10 year old who just got their X box taken away for a week.
Also Ecosport is a stupid meaningless name that is only going to confuse people. And you know some one will end up calling it a Escort.
One more thing. I’ve gotten so tired of the angry face that I kind of love the look of the new Prius C. Sure it’s got weird unnecessary fender flares, and faux skid plates for some reason... but at least it has a small grille and soft, even feminine eyes. Just a small car okay with being what it it’s. Perfectly non threatening. Also it comes in fun colors like orange and Teal, as every car should.

I’m not a fan of the “eco” names on all of the Ford vehicles. Especially since they’re not particularly eco. Should have just called this an Escort since they haven’t used the name in more than 15 years.

But Escort isn’t exactly a name that needs to be brought back. I think they needed an E name to fit with their other SUVs and couldn’t think of a good one, but some one in the the Marketing team said well people Economy and an Sport so... Eco Sport?

It’s a Ford family thing.

They’re funky little things in person. The base models have the most horrible application of Ford’s “you should’ve bought a higher trim” infotainment yet.

I just hate how ungainly these things are. They’re like a Smart, only worse, if that’s possible.

I think the oddest thing is how much longer the front over Hang is than the rear. In the ad they guy mentions designing the car with “the right proportions” or something like that. I think he needs glasses.

Not particularly eco but even less “sport”

The Fiesta still looks happy. And on some cars it’s makes sense like he Fusion/Mondeo. The Escape and edge look more bored than angry which is fitting.

For the Fiesta I think it’s down to which one you choose as to how happy it looks.
The Mondeo it varies from spec to spec.
Titanium,
ST-Line,
Vignale.
Kuga
Titanium,
ST-Line,
Vignale.

I forgot the Escape was called the Kigali in other markets. That sounds so much cooler.
Also what is ST-line? Just an appearance package?

Lol. It’s not called the Kugali either. :p
The ST-Line is an appearance package yes, just like many other marques have.
They should look at bringing out a Mondeo/Fusion ST rather than an Edge ST (stupidest idea). The Mondeo/Fusion looks good in ST-Line clothing.

That Prius looks either like a) an angry woman whose about to knock you on the side of the head with a frying pan or b) a slightly gassy puffer fish. Either way, I like the Fords look better.

I’m gonna blame spell check on that one. The mondeo does look good. Also, I say this every time I see one, but damn it I need a Fusion estate.

The “Eco” is more related to Ecology (since it was marketed as a offroad car) than to Economy (it never was a cheap car here)

Lol.
I think the U.S. could do with the Mondeo/Fusion 5 door hatchback/liftback.
So much more practical and looks almost identical to the 4 door saloon.
(though we have the 4 door saloon, 5 door hatchback and the estate).
Maybe a Focus ST estate.

I’m glad Ford is finally bringing/brought it here. They should have rushed it to production when Buick launched the encore.
I’m actually considering a Canyon Ridge-colored SES if I can convince my Ford dealership to put 5-lug hubs & wheels on it (like from an Escape) because I hate 4-lug wheels that much. The interior even has matching orange stripes!
I also hope there’s an ST model that will be the Fiesta ST’s successor, since we’re not getting that anymore.
Poor Suzuki predicted this small crossover trend with the SX4, but were too early - or late? - to male it worthwhile.

Fun fact: the new Prius c’s body kit is just a trim level in Japan. They still get the normal not-trying-to-be-a-crossover version:
The trying-to-be-a-crossover version is called the Crossover:
And then, if you want trying-to-be-angry Prius c, there’s the GR Sport:

The liftback thing is a great idea, looks like a sedan but way more usable. Mazda sold a 6 like that here, And I don’t think they had any problem selling it.

Yeah there’s no question that the market demands a car like this from every manufacturer. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Lol. That said my wife’s next could well be a Honda HRV, or hopefully Crosstrek. She drove an HRV we had as a loaner while the airbags in the Fit got replaced and she liked driving it a lot more than her Fit. I’m rooting for the Crosstrek almost entirely because I think it’s better looking

OTT of the Prius c: I actually like the more rough and tumble bodywork on it. It stays understated but has that extra little sporty bit of trim on it that almost makes it passable.
That is, if it wasn’t a car for people that hate driving.

The crosstrek is a pretty depressing drive. My former manager had one and she’s fairly open-minded automotively-speaking, and she got rid of it within 3 months. It felt even flimsier and tinnier than other Subarus.
Also check out the CX-3. It’s not quite as practical as the HR-V, but it’s a far more engaging drive.

Ecosport is a stupid meaningless name that is only going to confuse people.
No it isn’t. Eco = green, environmentally friendly, good fuel economy, Sport = fun. The name cleanly combines the two things Ford wants you to think the Ecosport does well. ‘sport’ and ‘eco’ have been trim names for cars since before the dinosaurs died. Everyone knows what you mean when you say ‘Camry Sport’ or ‘Cruze Eco’. It’s not confusing at all.
Whether or no the Ecosport actually is economical and fun is a matter to be settled by reviews and owner impressions.
