What this calls for is a tool that can be used with great finesse.

Poppycock! You can V8 swap a Jag with rusted through floors, it’s been done before.

The v8 swap will shake the rust away.

Is it bad that I think that’s not actually all that bad?

It really isn’t
that
bad, I’ve repaired worse it’s just that panels for this car are $$$$

The panels for my Jeep don’t exist. And by that I mean they don’t make them any more, although it occurs to me that could also be interpreted another way and not be hugely far from the truth...
Don’t be fooled by the camera angle. The bits that have paint are the outer rocker. The rusty bits with no paint are the inner rocker.
I got quoted $1900 to fix it. Looking at the quote it’s not super clear if that was per side or for both...

My XJ6 has a couple huge holes in the passenger’s floor pan around the edges. But oddly the outer rocker panels are mint. And actually the rest of the under side is pretty decent. I wonder if the PO ran over something and chipped off whatever paint or undercoat was there.
My mechanic offered to put a new flop pan in and patch up the transmission tunnel for ~$3800. I’m wondering if a body shop would be any less. After they stop laughing.
