So there is a new TRD pro Tacoma coming and the “big news” apparently is the snorkel.
Which
1. Its for dust. Most of you know this, but I’m telling you again...this isn’t for deep water crossings.
2. comes with an interesting bit of fine print
It’s exactly as aftermarket as the current offering from Safari or anyone else, the only difference is that its been branded Toyota. In fact I would guess it’s actually made by one of the current snorkel makers.
So If you’ve been holding out to buy a Tacoma to wait for the TRD pro?
Buy a TRD off-road
Put real tires on it
Buy an Icon suspension kit
Buy better aftermarket armor
get a snorkel of your choosing
Buy the TRD pro grill if you really want I guess
Save money
Bonus:
Turns other new hotness with the TRD pro line is stupid, fake, ugle, tacked on hood scoops.
man that looks bad.

I’ve long told people that the only advantages to the TRD Pro over the TRD Off-Road trim package are
Resale Value
Getting those components under factory warranty (which doesn’t cover abuse, wear and tear, or other things that would likely cause those parts to fail prematurely anyway)
TRD Off-Road is probably better choice for most consumers that intend to lift, off road, or otherwise use said vehicle.

Do you think the pro holds its value better? I guess I haven’t been looking. The other part is, you can buy the same suspension (with warranty) from TRD directly and put it on an off-road or sport. STILL save money.

For the 2nd gen, a Pro was nearly a combination of the looks of the Sport (scoop, turn signals in the mirrors, etc) and the mechanical bits of the Off Road, with a hooptier suspension. I sooo liked the Inferno on the 2nd Gen that I nearly bought one, I just couldn’t justify the $10k difference over mine.

dorkels for everyone..
At least before you could point out the people who were either crazy about particulates, or had already hydrolocked an engine. Now all bets are off.

Absolutely. Especially if you’ve secured one of the TRD Pros in the limited color for the year. I’m looking at you, Calvary Blue!

Bit of a letdown for me, the improvements are nice, its just that the teaser had me expecting more.

Exactly the same things apply to TRD Pro vs. Trail/TRDOR for the 4Runner as well. And with the 4Runner Trail/TRDOR you do get the added bonus of the stupid fake hood scoop so that it can reflect bright sunlight back into your face.
I have to admit that I really want the TRD Pro grille thing and I have a TRD Pro shift knob in mine.
