I mean, c’mon. Again today in Torch’s review of the Kia Niro he refers to him as ‘’the guy from Audi who worked on the TT’’
Ok, that was 20 years ago. Okay, he did the TT, but other than that, what was really creative design under VW/Audi? These cars are usually really evolutionary, especially Audi. He did the New Beetle, but that had to look like the old Beetle. The Mk4 Golf? That had to look like the Mk3. You see what I mean.
His purpose at Kia wasn’t the same. He came to actually CREATE a design language for Kia, because they didn’t have any. This must be a designer’s dream.
I think he has waaaay much more freedom of creation at Kia/Hyundai/Genesis than what he had at Audi and look at his wikipedia page:

Agreed! I published a Kia Rio 5-Door article on RFD today, I didn’t reference him as the guy from Audi. Ha, take that Torchinsky!
To bring this all full ciricle, Torch and I had drinks at a Hyundai/Kia event in Detroit last year where Schreyer was bartending!

What about J Mays? Wasn’t he the true boss of the original TT, New Beetle, B5 Passat, C5 Audi A6, and a few others at the time?
And IMHO, the Audi design language is still screaming along at Kia to this day. Not a bad thing, just not very original. The grilles used to look pretty cool, now they look like rabbit teeth to me.

It was audi that made him famous but I agree that he’s the designer for another company.
But we can’t forget in design that sometimes the thing that stands out is what defines you.... Like the Bangle butt, which I’m sure he’s designed great things! But everyone remembers the bangle butt

I definitely see Audi design themes at Kia and Genesis, at least since the MY 2011 Optima. I’ve even called some Genesis “Fauxdi”, I don’t know if he can be considered a new force yet. But it is something that the brand realized some of their KDM flair wasn’t cutting it on the world stage (hello Amanti et al) and brought in some outside talent.
