I remember seeing one of those outside a fast food restaurant over a decade over ago and thinking I never realized that Ford sold the Fiesta here. Obviously having knowledge of the Fiesta in other countries.

A common misconception is that these have a 1L 3-cylinder like a Geo Metro. It’s actually a Mazda B-series 1.3L 4-cylinder with 63 hp. Since the car only weighs like 1,600 lb, thats enough for around a 10 second run to 60 which isn’t too horrible. I’m really surprised to see one still in such good shape. Even though the car is a Mazda design, IIRC the US-market ones were made by Kia in South Korea, which back in the late ‘80's wasn’t a good thing. I remember build on these being atrocious.

We had a couple of these back in the 90's. I really liked them - I removed the back seat out of mine, and used it like a little van. My mountain bike would fit in there once I took off the front wheel. Wish I would have kept one! One of my co-workers has a green one with a Mazda 4-cylinder turbo engine in it... it is a hoot!

It looked pretty good from the side, too. Unfortunately I didn’t catch him at the right angle for a photo. Even at a ten second run to 60, this guy must’ve been flat out from every light.
Then again, it doesn’t take a lot to outrun our company Jetta.

I used to work with a woman who had a red, automatic, Festiva LX (or whatever the top trim was)
It had 13” alloy wheels and a spoiler. We could push shopping carts faster to 20 mph. Discovered that late at night in the parking lot of work.

A common swap for the Festiva was the turbocharged BP from the 323 GT, which was a pretty potent little rally machine. Bolts right in. Sport Compact Car magazine would refer to such a swap as the Fastiva. With no other mods, it would run the quarter at 11.6s.
So, naturally, the next two mods really really needed to be real brakes and a roll cage.
