Well, at least we both managed to make TNG references in our simultaneous lunch posts.

Well you have had some improperly prepared potatoes lol. As with any food that you dont like, just deep fry it and liberally apply salt and then you have a lovely tasty food!
But really potatoes are much better used to make some really creamy mashed potatoes or just chopped up, spiced well, and baked.

I almost never correct a restaurant for bringing me the wrong dish, unless it is less food than I originally ordered (like bringing a smaller size than I wanted). I have gotten the wrong thing and just happily eaten it anyways and then was happy I got that instead lol. This happened at a Thai restaurant because I was being the typical boring white person with a chicken and vegetables dish. But whatever the Pork and noodle dish that I got accidentally instead was amazing so now I know to order that instead next time and maybe even try other stuff on the menu.

Because potatoes are a great addition to any burrito or taco. Omnomnom!

Also, scalloped! Or atop shepherds pie. Or in soup, with bacon and broccoli and cheese. Or fried with scrambled eggs. Or tater tots. Or hash browns. So many tasty applications for potatoes.

here’s my, uh, beef with potatoes. They aren’t good, they only allow good thing to happen to them. A good baked potato? more than half delicious ingredients masking a white turd. French fries? mostly grease and salt. Creamy gooey cheesy potatoes? Add those same ingredients to almost anything savory and it would taste better.
Potatoes hold flavors back.

But you could say the same thing about any starch. Potatoes, pasta, rice, etc. No way would I eat any of those completely plain! They all need some butter, salt, and/or some other additive. I can’t just eat meat and vegetables, there’s no way I could afford that to maintain adequate caloric intake lol.
Although it was fun eating Korean bbq and having absolutely zero carbs or anything other than meat. I think I ate like 2000 calories of just meat. My heart rate was increased for the rest of the day!

Overcooking beef is the only thing I will ALWAYS send back. I want my burger or steak mooing damnit. If it comes back medium well I do not even want to look at that garbage lol.

I like to wait to eat lunch until I’m really hungry, because then when I finally eat it doesn’t matter what I brought because it’s the MOST DELICIOUS FOOD EVER.

nah, I love plain rice (i mean a little salt and butter, but the ratios favor rice heavily). I actually don’t mind plain noodles.

I mean every starch has its own pairing that makes the most sense. There is no food that I actually don’t like though so its hard for me to try and be picky about something. Its hard for me to grasp the concept that a food could be disliked lol.

Ordering a burrito in Utah?
I think I spotted the problem ...

It sounds like HHFP needs to try some of Skychismos famous fried potatoes.
Arizona burritos are pretty popular. Steak, potatoes, peppers and onions in a ton of oil. A carne asada burrio shouldn’t ever have potatoes in it though.

I’ve had good potatoes but I am still of the opinion that in the equation of flavor, potatoes are a negative value.

Depends on where you are - in places where Mexicans and Guatemalans have laid down roots in Utah, the south-of-the-border food in that state can be pretty amazing. Ogden, weirdly enough.

I find the presence of Mexicans (forget Guatemalans ... we’re talking burritos, here) has little to do with the presence of good Mexican food. LA, for example, has, what?, 50 million Mexicans living there ... and yet it has 2nd rate Mexican food.

Fair enough - the few times I’ve been in LA, my Mexican food experiences have been sub par for sure. Maybe a smaller community separates the wheat from the chaff? Maybe I live in a state with ZERO decent food from south of the border and anything that approximates it passes muster? Epistemology is hard.

I’ve had many burritos in my day in all parts of this land and lands south, I can say with some authority that these burritos, if not ruined by potatoes, are legit.
