It’s a B250 4Matic... and you’re gonna swap in a Hellcat!!!

Those lamps kind of give it away, best of luck working in that tiny hole they dared call an engine bay.

Add me to the club, +1.

Half right, it is an R63, no extra point though!

Winner! With an extra point!

Nah. It’s fine. Plenty of room. These are easy!
But I feel the need to specify here that I’m not being sarcastic at all

“maintaining” it. New head bolts, preventatively!

I mean, half of the engine isn’t easily accessible as far as the picture lets me know.... But hey, a good mechanic knows the way around that kind of stuff..

This seems like it would be terrible for your back, having to lean over so far to get to the engine from the front of the car.

Does the owner have $60g on hand for your services?
That poor thing is so dirty too.

It looks like it’s either been down back roads or out mudding :P

Oh 5 bolts and that top panel slides right out. Gives another 10 inches of clearance.
![]() 02/05/2018 at 20:42 |

Yeah it’s definitely not great. I try to do them in small chunks of time so I’m not leaving over then for hours at a time.

Lol this lucky guy just bought it and it’s extremely well maintained. It actually hardly needs anything. Actually, it doesn’t NEED anything. Any recommendations I have him were purely preventative, as is head bolt replacement. He’ll be out the door for pretty cheap (relatively speaking of course, probably under $2k)

Nothing that fun. Just shipped from Denver to Portland.

Oh and it was just shipped from Denver to Portland, which is why it’s so dirty.

Oh come on that’s easy, it’s a C63.
So what’s the issue with the headbolts ? They like to just snap?
![]() 02/05/2018 at 21:52 |

C63 is such a unicorn
Metallurgical issue. The old style ones corrode right under the head and eventually crack and release tension, or the bolt head can even break off. I’m a little surprised you didn’t know about this!

Just because I can get 13 licenses/certifications doesn’t mean I actually know anything =]
Or at least that’s what employers would always tell me.
I don’t ever see AMG’s, or even M’s. The first AMG I finally smogged was actually a CLA45, and I laughed like an idiot when it started up and farted. Now I know why the head of AMG always starts his cars with the door open.
And as much as I love Mercedes, I know BMW’s and VW’s way more, which makes me sad.

Lol that can be really true though! I took and passed 7/8 ASE’s with a few months of experience. I test really well, but I didn’t know a fraction then if what I do now. Thought I was hot shit, but the reality was probably a lot closer to a steaming pile!
Figured you’d heard about the bolts because they’ve come up on oppo plenty of times, and at least once on the FP and Reddit. But in that case, figured I better clarify, you did realize and were presumably joking about the above being a C63, right?
Lol I know what you mean. I can’t figure out why people talk shit about exhaust fart noises. Sure they’re programmed in, but they’re real enough and awesome in a childishly delightful way. Try programming them into a 4 banger Camry and let’s see how that sounds.
You fall into what you fall into. Working for Jaguar was my dream back in the day, thanks to a ride in a new at the time X308 XJR

Oh it definitely can be. After about two months at VW learning jack shit I got two ASE’s, and one was brand new at the time: A9. I also got either A6 or A8 at the same time. Within a few months of that I had A1-A8, and with still no experience I got L1. It wasn’t until I tested for my Smog Repair License that I met a challenge.
I got super frustrated with mangers wanting techs with experience and ASE’s, but then not wanting to pay shit, and then discounting all the theory I had amassed. I’m at a point now, I think maybe five years into the field, where I know as much, sometimes more, as guys that have been doing this for decades. There are still occasions where I miss a problem that only decades can teach you, but I’m constantly astonished at how much I actually know. But I’m sure if I went back out and applied I’d be told I don’t have enough experience.
Oh my god I’m an idiot, that’s an R63! Now it makes sense why you called it a unicorn. I didn’t even look before, I just saw the 6.2 and didn’t pay attention. I am right it’s an R, right?
I’m just glad I got to work on German cars so much. I’m also glad I didn’t get stuck to one brand. But I still don’t know jack (relatively speaking) about Asians and Domestics, but that’s fine by me.
