What did everybody do on their car and/or project over the weekend?
Me, I fixed an exhaust hanger issue on the Galaxie and repainted the underside of the trunk... after turning some steel bushings on a lathe to repair my grandmother’s walker, because of reasons.

Not really. I put my wrenching clothes on to go work on it, but it was raining. I said fuck it. Netflix time.

My weekend starts tomorrow. I’ll begin cutting out the trunk to make room for exhaust pipes and turbos, the exhaust hangar will be cut to the right size and drilled to fit, most of the ss lines will be cut to size and attached to the fittings, and there might be an attempt to finish the fender bodywork(unlikely)

tiled (and later grouted) in front of the fireplace. when i put the hardwood down I kinda wish i left 2' in front of the fireplace so i didn’t have to cut tiles and have different size tiles, but i will line up the front of the adjacent cabinets so that the grout lines line up with the cabinet base.

I finished rebuilding* the engine in a base model Cobalt. Why? Good question.
*Not total rebuild, but top end and timing set, so head off, cams out, valves out, side cover off, oil pan pulled etc. etc. etc.

Most things involving the Galaxie don’t require the pomp and circumstance of putting in the shop, and the shop isn’t warm unless prepared for a long haul, so even having a shop can mean rain- or cold-related task avoidance. Particularly short tasks.

I actually learned a trick to pass emissions: they put dry ice in the airbox so that air is denser and the car runs more efficiently.
My car actually failed the first time around because the dyno wasn’t able to handle the car’s almost 2 ton heft, They also put on the front wheel drive dyno because its a Kia, chuckles.
The second time around it did pass, however they did check if I had done that dry ice trick because to them I seemed too interested in the smog check equiptment
I just like car stuff, let me be wierd!

Long story short my sister ran it low on oil and it jumped time, so dad and I tore it apart and figured we could fix it for about $200 plus time. Well we discovered a couple more broken parts, ordered some gaskets we originally didn’t think we needed and parts took longer to get here than expected. Three weeks later its done, and we’re still in it for under $500. I’ll probably buy it off dad for about $1000, and drive it in place of my gas guzzling, high mileage, rusty old truck. We didn’t check the rod bearings (which with low oil we probably should have) but it runs smooth under load so..... If it blows up in a couple months, screw it, it’s just a Cobalt.

Nada. Mine’s in the panel shop after someone at work had a parking “oops”. Only a 6” dent but they’ve managed to place it right at the intersection of door, sill, and wing. Plus it’s pearlescent paint so they need to respect the entire side.
Instead I went to Leadfoot Festival and watched other people work on theirs with duct tape

1967 Bronco work, removed 4 locking lug nuts without the key, thank you hand sledge, 12 pt socket, and impact gun. Pulled passenger drum off easy peasy and tried to pull the drivers side off but had to resort to oil and WD-40 to try and break it free. All to put in new emergency brake lines and check the components.

One of the side repeaters on my Accent was having the amber coating flake off of it for quite a few months now and the light emitted was appearing far more white than the amber it was supposed to be. I finally got around to replacing the bulb and decided to upgrade to some Sylvania Zevo LED bulbs instead due to a sale.
I think the original halogen bulbs actually emitted a much nicer light SPREAD / more light due to the reflector, etc, but the new LED bulbs are far brighter and vastly more noticeable...and the name of the game for a signal is not how much light it emits, but how noticeable it is, so I’m quite pleased.
You can see the old halogen with the paint flaking off in the new Zevo bulbs’ packaging...definitely time to replace them! I kept the old bulbs as backups just in case, for now, but the new LED bulbs should last forever, or close to it. On the plus side as well, the new bulbs took away the amber-y tint my side markers used to have so they look only a classy silver now until they are lit. :)
Pardon the crappy nighttime pics, haha!

I only played around with the M6 size, and I doubt I’ll go much bigger. Most likely small brackets and the last one I used as a grounding point instead of a nut and bolt. But just in case I got the big two handed one in addition to the one handed rivet gun. The two hander is like butter if it fits within the space.
