!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , under this camouflage is the new Explorer ST. No word yet on specs but expect it to provoke many complaints about the supposed dilution of the heritage of the ST badge.

So, basically an FPIU with the 3.5 Ecoboost engine and the Explorer sport package or whatever.

The writing style at Autoblog is routinely horrible.

“Mild to slightly peppered”.

Methinks some of the people who use the phrase “mild to wild” haven’t really experienced a truly wild vehicle.

Every American automaker is just refeshing the same car they came out with in 2008-10.

I think I have some old car mags from the 60's and 70's that use it.

You know, if they hadn’t made a focus and fiesta ST, the ST moniker would be a perfect fit (Sport Truck). But they did, so now what should be an a press blitz of high power family haulers will all be about what the name means. What was wrong with SVT or Sport or Edge? I mean it would have been so easy to avoid the unnecessary controversy.

Honestly I think the whole “but it’s the ST badge!” ruckus is coming from a small but vocal minority and it won’t affect much of anything.

maybe. I think it will make an appearance in almost everything written about it, which will bring it more attention than it deserves.

I wish Ford would leave the ST stuff to the Europeans.

First the U.S. dies the Edge (for goodness sakes why?), now the Explorer!?

What next a Flex ST, an Expedition ST!?

From Europe you got the

Fiesta ST

Focus ST

Kinja'd!!!

Oh wait, is it because the U.S. didn’t get the

Fiesta ST 3 door

Kinja'd!!!

Focus ST estate

or the

Fiesta ST200

The new Explorer is rumored to go back to RWD base though, so there is that.

I highly doubt the new Explorer will switch to a rwd platform. The transverse engine helps it with being roomy inside and it’s a people hauler. Longitudinal engine would make for a larger vehicle to maintain the same interior room, and while plenty of people will buy fwd 3-row crossovers, far fewer people would want a rwd one.

I dunno, the 4 year old TTAC post that’s based on also mentions “there will be no new Ford GT” and we all know how that turned out.
